ALL COVID-19 DISCUSSIONS - PLEASE POST IN THIS ONE THREAD

If you are thinking about creating a thread in the main DF forum on anything directly relating to or slightly referring to COVID-19, even if it is Tigers related or the discussion of the thread moves in that direction, it will get moved to NTR and/or the Poeple's Forum. Please report posts if you see this happening and the MOD team will take the appropriate action.

So, from this point forward, please post in this thread. The MOD team would appreciate it.

Just saw my favorite PSA oN CBS news.

Please do not call 9-1-1 If you run out of toilet paper. This is a supply issue caused by panic buying. Buy what you need and use what you buy. This is not a life or death issue. 05-nono

RE: [COVID-19 MEGA-THREAD]
based on numbers posted today

the number of positive test is about 10% of folks tested

so 90% of those tested, do not have the virus

that is a high number which is tying up resources

RE: [COVID-19 MEGA-THREAD]
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2020...nment.html

Quote:Health officials in some of the hardest-hit areas of the country are calling for a more restrictive approach to coronavirus testing to focus largely on health care workers and the very sick in order to use resources where they could be most useful to save lives. In New York, California, and other areas that have been hit hard by a surge in coronavirus patients, officials are sending the message that the fight to contain the virus has been lost and now the focus needs to shift to responding to the pandemic in the most efficient way possible. That makes it likely we may never get a full picture of how many people are infected by COVID-19

And the GF still thinks I'm worrying too much...

I have a rice cooker, so that is usually what I use (shout to the asian GF, not a redneck thing to have in the kitchen).

Some baller veggie options here. Just did #1. Very solid.

RE: [COVID-19 MEGA-THREAD]
I have a rice cooker but still do it from scratch most of the time. Wash the rice, rinse it in a strainer, eyeball the water level (always use good water). Use slightly more water for shortgrain brown than long grain brown. White rice cooks faster. Sometimes add a teeny bit of olive oil so the grains are more separate. Add Saffron threads, cardamon pods etc if I want fancy rice.

Set the timer lol.

Turn off the bleeping thing. Never remove the lid for 15 mins at least. Rice must rest undisturbed. Voila!

When I lived in San Francisco, I learned the secrets of rice cooking from a macrobiotic dude who hailed from a galaxy far far away (New York City). lol He talked funny.

Gov Newsome's update today on the virus was encouraging:

Tim Cook, chief executive officer of Apple, has pledged one million medical masks to be donated specifically to California’s coronavirus efforts. Manufacturers in Los Angeles’ garment district and in Northern California have reached out to sew additional masks if needed.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, Inc. and Space X, has promised to use the supply chains that support his companies for help in assembling ventilators.

K.R. Sridhar, the CEO of Bloom Energy, agreed to help quickly modernize some 200 older ventilators that the state has on hand. The original manufacturer, Newsom said, had estimated doing so would take about a month.

“K.R. sent me a photo today, I’m not making this up, of 24 specific ventilators that he got done in just a few hours,” the governor said. “You’re already seeing this manifest certainly in the state of California and I’ve got to imagine that it’s replicated in other parts of the country.”
