Less competition for everyone else. MAC coaches have complained about all the smaller schools taking away walk-on talent.
Malone another D2 program in Ohio dropped FB last year.
Cincinnati Christian in NAIA closed in December had football.
Mid-Western Ohio College/ University closed down a few years ago, and they had football in the USCAA.
USCAA only have 2 football members left.
Apprentice who have a waiver from D3 to play as part of a conference for their football which counts.
Williams Trade can only play NJCAA schools since they are considered a two year school, and can't get the waiver.
D2 took a hit the las several years losing members from A)schools closing, B)schools moving to D1, C)schools dropping down to either D3 or NAIA, D)merging with another school (r.i.p. Armstrong State who was doing better attracting students then Savannah State) or E)dropping all sports but two like Cheyney did. Only one case of two schools merging their sports and that was LIU-Post merging with LIU at the D1 level. Lindenwood at D2 got the merging with their sister campus from NAIA.
D2 could be in a crisis if they start losing more members by either closing or dropping down. The larger schools may look at jumping to D1 sooner than later. That would mean schools that have said no the past few years.
