I know that this is news about hockey, but a sense of normalcy is starting to settle in. Camps for the NHL will start on June 1 and hockey will commence in July. Looking like they'll play their games at 4 sites, yet to be named.

China is locking back down after getting hit with a second wave of coronavirus.

"China has shut downs gyms and swimming pools in Beijing amid fears the country is vulnerable to a second wave of coronavirus.

It comes just days after the communist regime quarantined a city of 10million people in its north west region near Russia and on Saturday China's northwestern province of Shaanxi reported seven new imported cases coronavirus, all in citizens returning home from Russia."

Bottom line is that these leagues (a) are itching to play, but (b) must follow the law.

So if some states "open up" in a way that permits the NHL or NBA to play, these leagues will announce that practices and games will be held in those states. If the "opening up" backfires and things have to be shut down again, well then the leagues will shut down, unless there are some other states that remain open that they can logistically move to.

This is going to blow up in the NHL/NBA’s faces as soon as one player catches it and everything gets cancelled.

I think their plan is to play the games at 4 sites without fans in Canada. Could we really imagine Phoenix or Miami hosting games in July and the playoff games in August?

If it happens, I know I'd watch NBA playoffs in August, with or without fans in the arena...

They are pushing this too soon. Cases are now exploding in states that were in a rush to open too soon.

53,000 dead and counting, and people are worried about whether we'll have summer and fall sports? That light at the end of the tunnel may be a flame-thrower.

oh please.... I'm just posting what the NHL and NBA plan to do. Sometimes a good distraction from reality isn't a bad thing.

In a country of 330 million people...... just doing the math..... that’s less than 0.0001% of the population just of the USA. Proper protocols can bring things back slowly over time.

But if you want to live in fear......

They had multiple sites in both the USA and Canada, excluding Toronto. Some cities that were mentioned were Edmonton, Calgary, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, Denver and I believe Vancouver.

Things are getting better in some places though. A month ago, Louisiana was being described as the "worst place in the world" for CV. We were doubling our cases and deaths every 3-4 days. But today, our daily cases rose less than 1% and deaths 1.5%, and both have been under 4% for 10 days now, even after they fudged the numbers to include "probable" deaths.

Around April 4th, our Governor said that by April 9th we'd be out of ventilators, period. In fact, we've never come close to being out of ventilators, and the number of people on them has fallen from over 500 two weeks ago to under 300 today.

It's been a dramatic turnaround.

Yea parts of PA will be opening back up on the first with other parts opening up on the eighth. Same with here in Oregon. Pa reached it's peak back on April 2nd and Allegheny Co hasn't had a death in about a week as and only 33 new cases this past week. Compared to the hundreds in previous weeks. I expect that number to be even lower... So it shouldn't be some shock that the NHL is deciding to reopen it's camps on June 1st and playing games by July 1st.

I don't live in fear. Neither am I a damned fool. And tough talk coming from a little tulip with a big mouth doesn't faze me.

That said, this country is already obsessed with distractions from reality -- sports, endless entertainment, and everybody on couches (or behind the wheel) with their noses stuck in their smart phones. Sometimes engaging the real world and its problems is a better thing.

As you're giving me a lecture on a sports forum typing on a computer not engaging the problems of the real world. See the hypocrisy in your nonsense. And the distractions you claim to exist like sports really doesn't in the world we're currently living in. I don't have tough talk, just being real. Perhaps you should take heed to your own advice and cook a meal for first responders or something. Oh wait, you feel it's better and more mature to have some moral high ground on some sports board ignoring the fact that Brown's President wants classes to open up in the fall, and a MD from Stanford says it's time to open up shop in the US again. So of course the next step is talking about sports being played again. So yea, stop social distancing yourself in Uranus, and see that normalcy is trying to return again with many regions opening up as early as May 1st and where I live May 8th.

So yea, stop social distancing yourself in Uranus, and see that normalcy is trying to return again with many regions opening up as early as May 1st and where I live May 8th.

So, what is normalcy? I think everyone wants to get back to the way things were just a few months ago. The Stanford MD stated that, "We know from decades of medical science that infection itself allows people to generate an immune response — antibodies — so that the infection is controlled throughout the population by “herd immunity.”

John Hopkins defines herd immunity: "When most of a population is immune to an infectious disease, this provides indirect protection—or herd immunity (also called herd protection)—to those who are not immune to the disease. Depending on how contagious an infection is, usually 70% to 90% of a population needs immunity to achieve herd immunity."

The Stanford MD offers one way to get to normalcy. It is a bit risky. He cites the World Health Organization (WHO) numbers that state that 80% of all Covid-19 cases are mild and 50% showed no symptoms. But one problem with that is that the WHO on Friday stated that there is no scientific proof that there is immunity once you get and recover from Covid-19.

Anyway, without a vaccine, I just wonder what normal looks like in the next six months? I suspect it will be people practicing social distancing, wearing masks and at half empty stadiums. I hope I am wrong, because I need a haircut and I would like to get the gym.
