The only football school southern part of the southeast. That now goes to either Valdosta State or West Florida. Florida Tech spent all that money to raise their profile to where they are at.

They were?03-confused

Richard Hatch was mentioned earlier in the thread. He was going to use his Survivor winnings to catapult Florida Tech and the city of Melbourne to D1 glory.

Didn’t Hatch end up in prison for failing to pay taxes on his winnings?

Was a big survivor fan for the first 25 seasons: yes, yes he did.

Florida Tech to the ASun was the likely spot.

A large contingency of UCF fans think we should’ve kept the “Florida Tech” name, as it sounds better than a “directional” school name.

I think they are right. Changing the name was a missed opportunity, "FT" just sounds more prestigious, less little-brother.
I tend to agree, although it hasn’t helped Louisiana Tech.

Shorter could drop football soon as well.

GSC would be down to:
Delta State
West Alabama
West Georgia
Valdosta State
West Florida
Mississippi College

That would be only 6 football schools.

So Conference Carolina is going to start football with three members? Only Chowan, North Greenville, and future member UNC-Pembroke play football.

Carolinas is scheduled to have 5 football playing members when UNC-Pembroke joins in 2021. Chowan, North Greenville, future member UNC-Pembroke, and 2020 (hopefully) start-ups Barton College and Erskine College.

Florida Tech is not UCF.

I graduated at Boone high in '74. I remember a Florida Technical University in Orlando. It may not be the university now, but things change.

RE: Florida Tech drops football
Well, Shorter's financial issues could have them dropping football or going back to NAIA.

Not sure the schools that just added football will be able to start it, or keep them going.

Florida Technological (not Technical) University was UCF's original name, but they always used FTU and not the Florida Tech branding. The Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne is what we are calling Florida Tech in this thread.

So did I, hence my name.
