The Big South is going to raid most of the MEAC.
What's left, will join the SWAC (FAMU, BC)
The rest will drop to D2 if they cant find a suitable D1 conference.

The SWAC will redo the East and West divisions, and effectively make the SWAC championship game the HBCU national championship.

Works for me

American hasn't seen the CAA in 20 years.

I posted an article a few months back that D2 CIAA are ready to accept MEAC schools to drop down.

RE: FAMU to the SWAC?
Those bullet points make me think they've already decided.

The MEAC is very sick. There are a couple of extremely weak sisters (MVSU) in the SWAC, but the core is in much better shape than the MEAC. FAMU would be in the East playing 5 Alabama and Mississippi schools which are close to Tallahassee (heck it's right next to Alabama).

If they move, B-C, Howard and NC Central will have to move as well. (That ASUN double conference concept comes to mind)

Good for FAMU, good for the SWAC.

The Big South will raid what's left of the MEAC that is in their footprint. I would assume that what's left, if couldn't find a suitable D1 conference, would move to D2.

They will not go to the UAC (ASUN sister conference) because they wouldnt fit the parameters. But they could possibly join the ASUN side and football in the Big South.

I don’t see the Big South taking anything from the MEAC not named Howard, NC Central, or Norfolk St. I also don’t see the Big South going above 12 at any point.

There is more to it than going beyond 12...

There's going to be more movement coming, not just MEAC.

With the information being this public I'm under the assumption that it should be all but done. This also gets them a year to think about who else to expand with. I'm under the assumption they haven't talked to anyone else.

I read the first few pages of the document. Yup. To put a comparison between two conferences like that in an official document makes it abundantly clear, they're gone.

It's not officially a home run yet, but the ball is already sailing 50 feet over the outfielders' heads on the way out of the ball park.

RE: FAMU to the SWAC?
There are some talk that Tuskegee and Clark Atlanta to SWAC might be possible. Tuskegee and Alabama State are competitive as rivals in sports already.
Going after Clark Atlanta would get them into the Atlanta market which you could play some tournaments there.

I wouldn’t call MEAC done for yet, but if FAMU goes, and B-C is really hurting, it’s not looking good.

If Va. State, WSSU, or another D2 HBCU isn't interested in moving up, I wonder if the MEAC would be willing to accept non-HBCU D2 call-ups so they can keep their numbers up and stay viable as a D1 conference. Heck, if they play their cards right, maybe they could invite existing D1 schools to join. I don't know.

Yeah, I wonder about NJIT when you could be playing a lot more closer by than making the trips they currently do.

RE: FAMU to the SWAC?
The NEC is pretty maxed out as far as full sports members but if the MEAC gets ripped apart I wonder if they’d have interest in Morgan St, Delaware St, and Howard as football only members.

If Florida A&M leaves the MEAC I think B-C has to drop down to D2. They’d just be too isolated down there all by themselves. That or try to get in the A-Sun which has 4 Florida schools.

But the autobid approval is conditioned on the MEAC going down.
The MEAC is "going down" because the Big South and SoCon are raiding MEAC to replace members who jump to the UAC.
But nobody's jumping to the UAC without an autobid.

Which all adds up to "mostly nothing ends up happening, the NCAA lets the MEAC limp along much like the zombie WAC".

It's a lot like the zany schemes we come up with. Except this zany scheme was invented by the A-SUN commissioner.

That makes it more realistic, but not much. Any plan with that many moving parts is pretty much doomed.

Perhaps...we shall see

Big South may grow to 14 in anticipation of losses as NCCU and Norfolk St would fit in very well at 12 or 14

Also does it make sense for the SWAC to add only one FL school at an odd number

It would be less travel for NJIT but is it worth ruining the relationship they have with the Atlantic Sun? I don’t know. I think they have it pretty good given the position they were in a few years ago.
