New York University - Named after a mastermind of slave trade
Penn - Named after a slave owner
Penn St. - Named after a slave owner
James Madison - slave owner
George Mason - slave owner
George Washington - because Washington and the crazies.
University od Washington - because Washington and the crazies.
Washington St. - because Washington and the crazies.
Eastern Washington - because Washington and the crazies.
Howard University - Namesake masacred native americans

As ridiculous shame of a school NYU truly is, there's just no way that they would destroy their branding. But you did raise an interesting point.
Any Ivy League school is on the board because of their obsession with Marxism and Stalin. They would be creating gulags this minute if they were allowed to.

They could just go with St. George University or St. George State University, but the dragons might object to that name.

Oh, THOSE Dragons. I thought you meant the NRL Dragons.

Call it Western Utah University. Done. Case closed.

Zion St. University.
Univeristy of Utah - Las Vegas. Or if that's too much of a stretch, University of Utah - Santa Clara (look at a map and you'll see why)

Of course we have to get SIUe to change their name to Illinois-St. Louis as a package deal.

Rutgers. Turns out old Col Henry was a slave owner. There is already a student lead petition circulating.

Rutgers-Newark and others would be sweating bullets right now.

University of St George sounds a lot fancier than Dixie State anyway

The University of Maryland. The royal Stuart family were involved in the slave trade. Perhaps the state name will also be changed.

That’ll be a cold day in hell. W&L lives by its traditions including the tradition started by Lee to speak to everyone you pass on the sidewalk.

I was thinking U of Washington.

Pretty much any school named after a white man is fair game

RE: Division 1 school exploring changing its university name
St. George University or University of St. George could work, although one does naturally assume a university with "Saint" in the name is a Catholic school. I'd think St. George State University would be better then. Or if they could get things to work with UU, they could become University of Utah at St. George as previously attempted. There are directional options, like Southwestern Utah University (SWUU) or Southwestern Utah State University (SWUSU), but given the negative connotations of directional school names, it'd probably be best to avoid that approach.

I'd probably go with Western Utah over Southwestern. Not as accurate, but it sounds better. And besides, USF has proven that the geographical description need not be accurate.

Wiki says that at the time it was founded, "USF was the southernmost university in the state university system." So there was some logic to it. I can't condone Western Utah for St. George. 03-wink
