WACO (Netflix)
The wife and I started watching Waco on Netflix last night and it is stunning how inept and misguided the ATF was on the initial raid (I haven't gotten to the end when they burn the place down).

Does anyone know how accurate the series is?

By the way, so far the series has really kept my attention, but as what would be considered a "Fundamentalist" Christian, I am saddened by how perverted and misguided Koresh was as a "Man of God".

I watched it and as far as I know it was fairly accurate. But I'm not intimately familiar with all that transpired during that shameful event. The level of ineptitude and callous disregard for the safety of his followers displayed by all concerned was astounding. There was plenty of blame to go around, not the least of which was Koresh's and his number one, can't recall his name. If the events were portrayed accurately they could have easily avoided everything that happened.

Is this the one where the guy from Friday Night Lights plays Koresh?

I looked it up, but yes, it appears so.

To me, it is the bad actor from Battleship.

I believe it was considered fairly practical.

It is written based on Tibbado(sp?) and the negotiator's recollections. Considering Noesner's feelings on the HRT becoming too aggressive it would not surprise me if the view was slanted to make the ATF/FBI response look more inept than it actually was.

Side note, if you are into this big production docuseries check out Manhunt: Unibomber. That was show was very well done

So killing all those people wasn't the result of ineptitude on the part of everyone involved?

It’s actually based on two separate books. One written by the FBI negotiator and one written by one of the few Branch Davidian’s who survived the final raid and fire.

Hence the Thibodeau(Davidian) and Noesner's(negotiator) recollections/books part of my reply. I actually read the Noesner's book after watching the show, it was very good.

It was a failure of everyone involved. You don't attack people who believe one of the trumpets of the apocalypse will be a great battle between them and the world.

The whole thing was a mess---but what you really see is there was really no reason to attack a bunch loons in middle of nowhere. They were of no significance and werent bothering anyone. I mean---I think they were a little crazy---but given what we have seen the last couple of months---the Branch Davidians were of absolutely no danger to anyone living in the middle of nowhere until 100 ATF agents decided to attack for some reason. As was pointed out at the time, David Koresh could have been apprehended easily on his morning run or could have been brought in by the local sheriff (who didnt even regularly carry his gun).

Based on the show and some other things I read, after Ruby Ridge the ATF was facing some serious budget cuts. They needed a big bust on TV to try to restore their reputation. So the rolled down to Waco and proceeded to deep dick the fire ant hill.
