it'll be interesting to see if this spreads rapidly, just like the conference tournament cancels did last March.

Would not shock me. Figure the Pac 12 is going to be fast on the heels of their sibling conference. At that point, it's everybody into the pool.

I'd think the other P5 would have to go this route.

RE: Big Ten conference only
the one that it's going to hurt is the Big 12 with only 10 teams....

And what happens this year now with Notre Dame is the big question....

Big impact on football scheduling for all conferences.

Syracuse loses a game at Rutgers. Rutgers needs a P5 opponent for 2025. I'd propose to Notre Dame to move the 2025 SU at ND game to 2020 and play RU in 2025.

Just looking- Notre Dame has Wisconsin, but then 2 Pac 12 games.... Do they play 3 more ACC games now to give them 9? And then Navy, Arkansas, and Western Michigan.

Yep, the Ivy League announced no fall sports yesterday. Maybe coincidence, but that announcement could be the domino that starts the rest to fall...

RE: Big Ten conference only
So I assume they’re only playing a 9 game schedule? Or will they play 12 and it’s all within the conference?

How does the CFP evaluate a B10 team who only plays 9 games vs others who play 12?

So.many.questions.

Won't hurt the Big 12. If conferences go through with this, it's a good bet that they'll be playing fewer than 10 games anyway. For example, Big Ten could play only division games plus a CCG, with a few extra weeks built into the schedule in case a game has to be rescheduled on account of a team having many COVID-19 positives. MLS has already had 2 teams pull out of its ongoing tournament in Orlando for having several players test positive.

yeah good point.....

Although Big 12 if they have 4-5 teams drop out then only have 5-6 left....

That's a good point.

Big impact on football scheduling for all conferences.

Syracuse loses a game at Rutgers. SU needs P5 opponent for 2024, Rutgers needs one for 2025. I'd propose to Notre Dame to move the 2025 SU at ND game to 2020 and play RU in 2025.

Potentially, Syracuse could play @Notre Dame in 2020 if the SEC goes to conference only. The Irish are set to play Arkansas that day. Assuming they still play @Navy in Week Zero, that would give ND 4 ACC home games and 3 away for an 8 game schedule (assuming that they also lose their two PAC games).

But if ALL conferences went to conference only, that leaves all the other independents in a world of hurt.

Syracuse, BC, Miami and VT all lose Big Ten opponents. I'm guessing the ACC helps make sure ND has a full schedule.
