Spring football?!
FBS football in the spring. You’ve got:

- NFL Draft in April: are NFL-level players going to opt out so they can attend combines, pro days, etc.? The vast majority of players that make an NFL squad are as undrafted free agents (UFA) to put on practice roster even if they don’t make the 53-man. No players can have contact with pro teams, even scouts, or they lose NCAA eligibility. They need to attract eye balls, meaning be in “pro days”, combines, etc. and hook up with an agent to get exposure. If you add these guys to the definite- and probably-drafted players we have teams playing in March without most of the best players on the depth chart. Is it even worth the risk at that point?

- Official signing day in Feb: are coaches supposed to guess who’s leaving/staying to keep numbers below 85 schollys?

- March Madness (assuming hoops are played which, in this scenario, we will) is in March: TV networks want eyeballs on football to make conference contracts worth paying, so are they going to agree with FBS competing w/ that? What about CBS who has football contracts and the rights to March Madness?

- Players are expected to play a full season, go straight into offseason workouts, then summer camp and 2021 season? I don’t imagine anyone arguing for that.

Point: I don’t think 2020 will be played in spring. If it gets wiped this year then I think NCAA announces eligibility waiver and we look to 2021. Recruiting issues (85 scholly cap; 25 class cap) will still have to be addressed. Even if the NCAA temporarily raises the roster cap to, say, 100, it has to come back down at some point. One year’s recruiting class is going to have the rug pulled out from under it whether this year or in the future.

And, no, conferences - especially G5 - will vote to keep the higher cap. That almost takes us back to teams signing talented players just to keep them from the competition (something Bear Bryant was notorious for) and that is the entire reason for the cap.

RE: Spring football?!
Can money still be made form TV in the spring?

If yes, it will happen.

If not in the Fall or Spring, no football until Fall 2021.
