What will FBS mean if the P5 break away?

Frankly I see the SEC and ACC moving to 9+1, which is where the B12 is, while the B1G and P12 move to 10. I also see the playoff expanded to work with this, all five champions in, plus 3 at-large. If the P5 breaks away, then no need for any G5 access.

What will FBS mean if the P5 break away?

Nobody has to break away from the NCAA to play 10 conference games. Those are completely separate issues.

That's fine with me if everyone gets on board with it. Would be brutal for those G5 schools though. Everyone goes to ten conference games and 2 P5 non conference.

Currently I would like to see a requirement of at least 10 P5 games. Most conferences are already there, there's just a few schools lagging in the SEC and ACC (SC is an offender most years too)

We have been on the path towards a P5/G5 split for years. Frankly, I viewed it as already occurring in 2013, but it is anything but official. One of the many negative effects from COVID is that it is pushing organizations and schools to make tough decisions that they wanted to make before (but were always afraid of negative pushback/reception). Now, these groups have a legit reason to finally implement.
