ACC men's basketball coaches are proposing an expanded 2021 NCAA tournament that would include every Division I team.

Several ACC coaches would prefer to avoid nonconference games in the 2020-21 season due to complications from the coronavirus pandemic, with sources telling ESPN that Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski is spearheading the push for an all-inclusive NCAA tournament.

ACC coaches voted Wednesday to propose the expanded 2021 NCAA tournament, sources confirmed to ESPN. The vote was first reported by Stadium.

Schools and coaches are expected to release statements about the proposal throughout the day. Wake Forest coach Steve Forbes gave his statement on Twitter.

"I am so proud to stand UNITED with every coach in the ACC in the belief that every Division I college basketball program should be allowed to participate in the NCAA Tournament this year!" Forbes tweeted. "This is what's best for our student-athletes, fans and the sport of college basketball. It will incentivize everyone that loves and cares about our great sport during these unprecedented times, and it will provide a safe environment for all to participate in. LET'S GET THIS DONE!"

I just don't know their reasoning, aside from the one comment saying they don't want to play out of conference games.

It also alludes to pulling off a bubble plan. So literally, an article with no real headline, and coaches that may have ulterior motives.

I love this for a bunch of reasons, but one of this biggest is that if done correctly it will give little more equity to the little guys.

Here is my proposal.
First all conference winners get automatic berths to the 64 (this happens now). There will be 32 of these. This can be done by regular season or tourney.

After that, the lowest (rip or some other metric) 138 teams play leaving 69 (nice) advancing.

There are now 256 noncon champs teams left.
My proposal is that these schools are put into 32 eight team pods and RANDOMLY assigned to play.
So Kentucky might have to win the Biues Creek pod hosted by Campbell. Or Kansas might have to win their way out of the Orono pod hosted by Maine.
Winner of each of the 32 pod dances.

But you know they're not going to do it fairly. They'll put all of the big conference schools as top seeds and put all of us mid tier guys facing off against each other. They'll feed the big schools, this would not be done fairly.

I don't like the motives, I think they are ultimately trying to prove that the big conferences would advance further than the good mid tier schools. They'll have us pick each other off.

And they've already hinted at that, if you read between the lines in the quotes, they don't want to play and out of conference schedule, meaning they don't want to play small schools because they are afraid of contamination.

In my eyes, it's more bs.

Oh, I know their hearts aren’t righteous and they would never do it my way.
But, my proposal would eliminate the RPI as only the conference champs get an automatic. The rest would be randomized. Doing it this way would get more games against big boys because you are ultimately playing for the conference championship and not worshiping your strength of schedule.

I could see this working IF (huuuuge IF) there is more nonbiased seeding and equitable site determination. Flying a team from Florida to play a team in Indianapolis is the wrong approach. Regional brackets with truly regional teams (regardless of friggin' conference affiliation) is needed.

Wouldn't it be nice if one day 'conferences' and all of the corrupt BS associated with them were abolished and everyone in a region competed in a regional bracket leading up to a national championship. It used to be much more like that.

I love it, but only if there is no season. Just throw everyone into a giant NCAA tournament. Survive & Advance
