It is sad. We should all strive to be top 200 at the minimum.

Tech has refused to do the US NEWS survey for quite a long time and they try to make us pay for it every year.

I'll take it since we only reached R2 status last year.

Well, LA Tech has obviously gotten sideways with the USNWR people. It was only 4 or 5 years ago that Tech was ranked just ahead of UAB and in the top 150 to 200 range. With the exception of a few elite academic schools (Rice, etc...) the USNWR seems to favor the urban schools with very large populations these days. Universities with only 12K students in small college towns just aren't very appealing to this rag.

You mean the publication that clearly states you guys pay them to be featured in?

And you are responding to the LaTech faithful with a publication that does not list them in it top 386?

USNWR rankings are bogus for many reasons. I actually respect that LT doesnt participate, though it does hurt. I don't think its the urban thing that makes a difference though. The main factors for USNWR rankings are 1. Admissions standards/selectivity 2. Research 3. Alumni giving 4. Alumni reviews 5. Peer reviews. The last two are the most subjective. They've also recently starting adding some weight to "social mobility", basically meaning the financial status of the family you came from, vs. the status you reach after graduation. That actually does help urban schools with more diverse populations that are more convenient to first generation Americans.
