RE: Future FB Schedule (2024-2034)
We can’t ***** about the other two FBS schools not playing us and then not schedule Liberty. It’s horse manure when UVA and Tech do it to us.
For a long time NC State wouldn’t schedule ECU because Pirate fans are dentally-challenged hoodlums, but eventually it comes down to, it’s a close-by FBS game with lots of regional interest. Sadly, there where JMU finds itself.

That's reaching a good bit trying to bring a comparison to the NC State/ECU deal. If I'm not mistaken, those two teams and fans wanted to fight each other every time they competed. They had to stop playing until it was a distant memory.

RE: Future FB Schedule (2024-2034)
I have no problem with an early season “pracitice” game but am with those who would much rather see JMU schedule a weak FBS team. But I get the impression that we are relying on FCS games in order to make sure we get 6 home games. For now, in order to schedule the Marlands, UNCs, and VTs of the world, we need to be able to schedule a home game with a school that doesn’t expect a return game.

Isn’t that the case with Ball State? JMU is paying them $400k.
I think FCS games have been in the $200k range.
Yes it costs more money, but in the 12 team CFP you can’t afford to not spend the scheduling money to max out your SOS.
Woe be to the four G5 conference champs that are rated lower than the #1 G5 champ. With the recent wilting vote, only one G5 will be living in the limelight and have an also have a chance to knock off a blue blood on the national stage.

I just don't think that system will last very long. The 25 or so teams at the tippy-top are just playing an entirely different sport. 100k people turn out to watch Michigan, and they get, what, 5-6 players drafted every year? We're delighted when one of our guys gets an XFL or Canadian roster spot.
Eventually the P4 will stop playing anyone else at all for fear of losing, (why bother scheduling Troy when you get to play Vanderbilt or Northwestern every year?)
I think eventually one of the networks will decide it's a better draw to have the top two G5 teams play each other on New Years than have the 6th-best teams from the B1G and SEC. Until then, the best we can hope for is the drubbing that Liberty took.
Keep in mind that our 2023 situation is likely to repeat - if we're good enough to be in the NY6 discussion, what are the chances we even have a coach the Monday after the Sun Belt title game?

They had 18 players invited to the NFL Combine this year alone, while we haven't had a participant since 2015.

The thing is, as you stated, there's 25, if that, which have all the power. There's a bunch in the power conferences who want to win some games and they aren't going to win them playing Alabama every week. Those schools need us. Having TCU make it to the championship game, or even in the playoffs, every year is miraculous. We've had Cincinatti and TCU who made it in a decade. Those guys need us and we need them. The Vandy's, Northwestern's, Duke's, and even the UVA's need us.
