I'm obviously not following your train of thought. What do you mean "build a team around Mason Fine"? I thought UNT did that pretty well, while Fine was around. But, Fine graduated, and moved on with his life like everyone else. Please clarify your point.
Littrell built an offense around Fine. And the offense he built can still move the ball and put up points against weaker competition. The problem is that Littrell never put much thought into defense or either of the lines. We are now paying the price for his short sightedness. Now that he is under pressure and worried about his job, he is trying to patch together a quick fix before next season. A real head coach would have us rolling going into year 6 of his leadership.

That right there is the move....
Doc is on the hot seat of course he's been on that seat since 2014. UNT can afford to pay more money. If I was Littrell I would be willing to add 200k from my pay to help in getting a proven DC.
But then again, Littrell, is also one foot out the door. One plus for Littrell and UNT, its been shown the offensive system wasnt all Mason Fine...the system can work and produce points without a 1st team all conference player.
So if the defense catches up 8 to 9 win seasons would be possible. Then it will be up to Littrell to finally prove he can coach (or not) and win the games that gets a program from interesting to conference champs and bowl winners.
