North Texas adds this weekend's Blizzard Challenge to its schedule after their tournament in Frisco gets cancelled due to the weather. The Mean Green will take the field against #7 Texas and #8 Oklahoma State.

RE: 2021 Softball Thread
USM has made adjustments to its weekend and upcoming schedule i feel like....

we play a DH at Nicholls St (La) on Friday, then go to Southern University in Baton Rouge and play a single game on Saturday, then come home and play the same Southern University team in a DH on Sunday at our place. Why not just stay in Baton Rouge and play all 3 games there to help out on travel for Southern University.

and i see later in the season we've made another boneheaded schedule..we play at single game at Jacksonville St (AL) on Friday followed by a Saturday DH starting at 1:00 pm. You figure game 1 ends around 3 pm with game 2 ending around 5:30-6:00 pm barring extra innings. Get a quick shower and on the road by 7:00 pm for a 4 1/2 hour drive home so close to midnight. They then turn around a play a DH against Houston Baptist on Sunday at 1:00 pm

Later on in the season we play a DH vs Samford (from Birmingham) in a home series on a Saturday then turn around and go to Samford the next day for a single game.

For conferences and some schools coming up with ways to make the most of its time/money this seems pretty bad on our part.

Good job scheduling this. And the temps are forecasted to be 57 degrees Saturday and 63 on Sunday. That's almost perfect.

Good luck in the games.

UNT is scheduled to play #6 Texas in Austin on Wednesday. We will see if that game gets played.

Trautwein... good German name. :)

UTSA is 2-0 so far, taking a pair from Lamar. We've had several games canceled due to the winter storm here in Texas and our next games aren't until Feb. 26-28 when we host the UTSA Classic and will play Kansas twice, UT-Arlington, and A&M-Corpus Christi.

Marshall announced its schedule, then two days later went into a COVID break. They had to cancel their first two weekends of games.

She is a great player and she is loyal too. I was at OU last season when she handed them their first home loss in several years. After the season OU and other more prominent softball programs wanted Trautwein to transfer out of North Texas. She told them all "No thanks". Looks like she is set to pick up where she left off last season.

So...We should spend more money by staying in Baton Rouge to save money for another college. Yes, brilliant.

As good as OU has been, they’ve made a living off of poaching pitchers specifically. They haven’t developed their own 4-year girls there for awhile.

College softball is a dirty place when it comes to ethics and poaching efforts.

RE: 2021 Softball Thread
Saturday North Texas dropped its first game against #8 Oklahoma State by a score of 2-0. Not a bad loss. If we had any bats in that game we may have been able to get the win. In the second game, North Texas run ruled Lamar by a score of 9-1. Lamar's lone run came on an error at second base. Hope Trautwein recorded 12 strikeouts from the 16 batters she faced.

In today's first game North Texas again run ruled Lamar, this time by a score of 8-0. North Texas pitcher GiGi Wall only allowed one hit in the game.
In their second game of the day the Mean Green will face #7 Texas at 3:30pm. I believe Trautwein will be pitching for UNT. If the girls can get some runs, North Texas stands a good chance of knocking off their first ranked team of this season. I'll post a link to the live stats if anyone wants to follow the game.

It is a fast growing female sport, and it does seem like the wild west at times. I'm glad North Texas has committed to being a player in softball. We are located in a hot bed of talent and within 3 hours of Oklahoma City where the softball world series is played. If we can hang on to DeLong, I could see the Mean Green playing in the series within a few season. He already has our girls beating ranked teams (Oklaohoma & ULL twice). I really think we have a legit shot at taking down #7 Texas today.

We were already there so why not just play a DH there instead of a single game. There's no extra expense as you're already there. We come back home to play them so now we've got umpire expenses, game workers that aren't university employed, security, games at 3 and 5 so added power bill, we've got limited attendance policy so it's not like we're raking in the money for home games. Just do like baseball/football where we play there one year and then here the next. Just seems like unnecessary expenses

RE: 2021 Softball Thread
USM is 8-2 on the season with 5 games on tap for this weekend...a single game friday at Jacksonville St (AL), a DH there on Saturday then come home and play a DH vs Houston Baptist on Sunday. USM has yet (IMO) to play anyone with a pulse and this weekend will continue that as Jax St is 0-5 while Houston Baptist is 2-0 with their 2 wins coming against Nicholls St.

USM's first real tests comes next week as we play at LSU for 1 on Tuesday, go to Auburn for 2 on Friday, and play currently 10-1 Troy (games in Auburn) for 2.

I don't think Tech will be very good this year. Great place to play, but coaching will have to test the test of time. A new year, new coach, and new journey.

RE: 2021 Softball Thread
I haven’t done a good job updating this year.

So far 7-5 overall, with 3 of those losses being to top 10 teams:
Lost to Ole Miss 2-8
Lost to Troy 0-8 (bittersweet - hate Troy, but their coach is a UAB alum)
Beat Ole Miss 13-5
Beat Belmont 5-0
Beat SE Louisiana 14-6
Lost to #9 Louisiana 0-1
Beat SE Louisiana 6-1
Lost to #9 Louisiana 2-8
Lost to #4 Alabama 7-1
Beat Eastern Illinois 3-1
Beat Eastern Illinois 8-0
Beat Nichols State 7-1

We’ve got a new coach this year, Joe Guthrie, who was an assistant the past two years for us. Hitting picked up last year, and it seems that pitching is improved this year. One of our pitchers, Parker Conrad, is a transfer from Oklahoma and sat out last year. Parker currently has 24 strikeouts in 17.1 innings pitched & an ERA of 1.21. We also have a freshman, Jaycee Cook, that has an ERA of 1.37 in 15.1 innings pitched. Amy Woodham has an ERA of 3.37 in 20.1 innings, but she’s started against tougher opponents (Louisiana, Alabama, Ole Miss).

UAB was scheduled to play a doubleheader against Alabama State on Sunday, but the 2nd game got cancelled (I’m guessing from the possibility of storms Sunday evening). The 1st (only) game will be at 12:30 CST.
