RE: CUSA Tournament Predictions
It was very clear from the start of Western vs UAB, UAB was going to try and stop Bassey and Tay and William on the inside. Doing so they would make McKnight and Josh beat them. The freshman stepped up and took advantage of what was giving to him...the lane on drives was there all game because of the attempt to shut the inside game down.

It worked for the most part before Bassey made the decision to overcome the problem he was having from his back. Maybe a pain shot at halftime helped? Williams was pushed outside the paint and was out of control having to make moves farther out than he was use to. Tay was bodied up all game and it got into his head.

UAB was giving Josh the outside shot if he wanted it and McKnight one on one even with the outside pick. UAB played Bassey on the pick and roll instead of hedging out to keep McKnight from getting into the lane. The freshmen took what was given and played a lot smarter than he's been playing

If not for falling back into eating clock then forcing a shot or turnover for the last 3 minutes. Western wins by 10+. When this team is able to get out on offense or take the good shot even if its early into the clock...they play very good. Run clock and the outcome is a close game with the chance of letting the other team come back

The story of the last few seasons and it really came true tonight. Get a lead by pushing your offense and taking good shots no matter how many seconds are left. Then pass the ball around till 5 seconds and force one up or not get a shot off..

The stop/slow sign always comes out and changed the game

[Image: 2-sloth-holding-stop-sign-cartoon-clipart.jpg]

Western made program history in the championship game....

Stansbury became the first Western coach to not take his team to a NCAA Tourney with in 5 years. But that OK with some Western fans because they will tell you they rather beat a few P5 programs and win the water cooler recruiting championship.....

than a low seed NCAA Tourney bid

First coach in Westerns history to not make the NCAA Tourney and only one other, took 5 years to do it. Cant coach a lick (I'm not a bandwagon jumper on that. Said it when he was hired) but boy can he get high ranking talent to Western. Cant keep them, or coach them but he can sign them.

Becoming a habit of 10 hours of driving to reflect on losing another championship and no NCAA bid. It will be my last stop over at this rest area to get a few hours rest before daylight and then driving the other 5 hours home.

You're welcome North Texas......07-coffee3

I doubt it.

But when they have to face LA Tech, our season will probably end.

In all fairness, I posted that before we played MTSU. And at that point UNT was riding a 3 game losing streak and had not shown any signs of playing at a championship level during the regular season.

Is Stans starting to wear out his welcome at WKU? Guy can assemble what's typically the most talented team in the conference each year, but always seems to come up short of making the tournament. Has to be frustrating. Reminds me of the Mike Davis era at UAB.

The standard was suppose to be a NCAA bid every three years. At least that's what this AD said when not renewing Harpers contract. This hire is the AD's hire...100% and the President at Western (today) is a clown, bowtie wearing clown.

So my guess is Stansbury is at Western till he no longer wants to be coaching. The AD also values p5 wins and winning the water cooler recruiting championship.....

more than conference championships. Western has a lot of fans that think just like the AD. So the losses in important games cant be coaching. Doesnt matter if 90% of the fans from other schools can see...ITS COACHING!

Its clear that Stansbury is a roll out the ball and dribble drive and nothing else. Well other than getting 7 points leads with 2 or 3 minutes left then running the clock down to 5 seconds. He's very good at that but not "teaching". Bassey is the only player that had meaningful advancement of his skills while at Western. The others are basically what they were as freshmen. Very minor growth

Wrong the Mean Green won the regular season in 2020 ( no tourney so we are conference champs) and then won the tourney this year. That = back to back

Man, you are dense...and on thin ice...

Regular season champs one year and tournament champs the next does not equal back to back. They are two separate things.

They do, Thunderstruck, when you consider that these were the only two ways we could measure a true conference champion each year, and UNT won both. I have to side with UNT fans on this point. (And I think you all know I'm no UNT fan.)

The time to do something about it was a week ago. Not now. Give the Mean Green their due.

To be honest, I'm kind of torn on this topic. Yes North Texas won the regular season title, but the conference tournament got cancelled after basically the first day. At that point C-USA awarded North Texas the bid to the Dance, but then the Dance got cancelled too.

We didn't get to earn the ticket in the conference tournament. And, there was no NCAA Tournament. The 19-20 basketball season will always have an asterisk next to it. While I'm proud of the season North Texas had last year, I'm content to just hang a "19-20 Regular Season C-USA Champs" banner in the Super Pit. I would hate to see us be like UCF and their "fake National Championship banner. Basically, I only want to claim what we actually won on the courts. I think that seems fair.

Calling me dense? That's pretty rude. Even the conference announced us as Back to Back Champs when they did the tourney presentation at the star. Because their was no tournament last year we were the conference champs. Its really not hard to figure out. Back to Back sounds nice! 04-cheers
