Nobody knows about the draft, but they seemed to get some value with Trikozov. These picks won't help next year, but their trades seem to be improve the team as well.
Near term IMO it's been a terrible offseason. Historically they have drafted well and it appears they continue to do so which bodes well for the future.
My stick is they have lost some really important/good pieces from a team that was so close to getting over the hump last year.
So far they have Lost TDA(26 year old) who had a great year, was the captain of the PP and replaced him with a 37 year old Burns who has been very good, but 37 nonetheless. They are on the hook for 3 years at about 5.5 got him. TDA signed for 2-10. TDA also brought a much needed edge, which had been missing from past years teams. Last year for the first time, i feel like they didn't get pushed around.
They lost Trocheck to NYR, Not only is he a great player but also was a huge leader on that team. They also lost Cole, and Smith. Nino is likely gone too.
They added a solid forward from Vegas, but not nearly enough to replace what has been lost. It was reported they were about to sign Marchmant, who was a top FA out there, Dallas swooped in last minute and snatched him out from under us.
This almost seems like kind of a rebuild with the key pieces they let go, and given how close they were to getting over the hump that just doesn't make sense to me. To add further insult, most of the teams in their division have gotten better. It's going to be interesting to see how the rest of the offseason plays out, but I'm not overly impressed thus far.
