Critical Race Theory
Hopefully we're never confronted with this with regards to this in Tennessee or Mississippi but we might. Below is an outline / section of model legislation that states (Tennessee) are using to *prohibit* the teaching of Critical Race Theory to children. The fact that *these restrictions trouble proponents of Critical Race Theory* is itself troubling in my opinion and might inform what critical race theory is really about --
Schools may *not* teach that -
One race or sex is inherently superior or is the oppressor of another race or sex
The United States is fundamentally racist or sexist
an individual, by virtue of his or her race, is inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously
an individual should be discriminated against or receive adverse treatment solely or partly because of his or her race or sex
members of one race or sex cannot or should not attempt to treat others without respect to race or sex
An individual's moral character is necessarily determined by his or her race or sex
an individual, by virtue of his or her race or sex, bears responsibility for actions committed in the past by another member of the same race or sex
any individual should feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress on account of his or her race or sex
meritocracy or traits such as hard work ethic are racist or sexist or are created by a particular race to oppress another race
Race or sex stereotyping - ascribing character traits on the basis of race or sex
Race or sex scapegoating - assigning fault, blame, or bias on account of race or sex

RE: Critical Race Theory
More rant (and no more coffee:-) )
"Critical Race Theory." The name itself draws a lot of suspicion. Critical Race Theory, first off, isn't a scientific based "theory" subject to falsification (like real science) or arrived at by the scientific method (like real science.) The name is used to give it some sort of gravitas it wouldn't otherwise have. The central "assumption" of critical race theory is that racial prejudice, conscious and unconscious, drives ones behavior and thinking. This is an *assertion* without any proof. Starting with this *central assertion* someone who advocates critical race "theory" moves on to look at outcomes and then *always* points backwards to race as the cause. For example disparities in income? Caused by race discrimination of course.. there is no room for any other possibilities. However, working backwards from an outcome to a single alleged cause is an inherently wrong way to reason. Assuming the "cause," without proof, among all the other possible causes and mixture of causes in our universe isn't "scientific / theory." It is, however, political. And of course, critical race theory is not "critical" of its own findings, it does not review its own findings and doesn't have a mechanism to review its own findings ... since its conclusion is already known. For example, questions should be asked about early Asian discrimination in the United States .. yet Asians, in general, show higher achievement than whites when it comes to income and education. Immigrants from India are the highest earners in the United States on average. How does that jive with the theory? Generations of poor whites in Appalachia? In my opinion critical race theory is inherently racist, a house of cards built in the sky, and shouldn't be taught anywhere.... Especially to children. I'll say that again -especially to children.

RE: Critical Race Theory
Since school starts in less than three weeks, I sat my kids down lastnight and we had a long discussion about this.
I can't speak for other parents nor am I responsible for other kids, but my children have been instructed what to do if it ever enters their classrooms.

Yep, by the way my first post is an outline of the model legislation used by Tennessee and described by the media as anti Critical Race Theory. Thats anti-Critical Race Theory. Let that sink in.
