I agree with that.

MWC EAST
Rice
UTEP
New Mexico
Wyoming
Utah State
North Texas

MWC WEST
Boise State
Nevada
San Diego State
San Jose State
Fresno State
Hawaii
UNLV

When Boise State bolts for the Big12, replace them with Louisiana Tech or Montana or North Dakota State, or just stay at 12. It's still a decent conference without Colorado State and Air Force.

But that conference goes against the creative thinking I think the MWC should do.

Would you just add NDSU and Montana? I doubt the MWC would want to break up their rivalries, but getting into Texas helps them with recruiting and exposure. They may be willing to do it to help their conference.

You still have to consider the tv value that the MWC would still want to maintain. If it's just a matter of convenience then your proposal would be fine.

I don't see many options for them, unless they just decide to move forward with eight members after AF, CSU, and BSU leave. Without those three, their TV contract takes a hit anyway. Adding three from Texas doesn't do much to increase that value, but it would bring them benefit in other ways.

See, I think there are schools in the east that could prevent the MWC tv deal from taking a significant hit. That's why I say they should consider a truly eastern division.

This presumes that Boise, AF and CSU leave:

MWC EAST
Rice
UTEP
New Mexico
Utah State
North Texas
LA Tech
UTSA

MWC WEST
Nevada
San Diego State
San Jose State
Fresno State
Hawaii
UNLV
Wyoming

Now THIS is very manageable by both sides of the MWC conference. 5 CUSA teams move to the MWC. As a LA Tech fan, I don't like it as well as the current CUSA, but assuming we're talking about a "life raft" situation with many others leaving CUSA 3.0, this is a pretty good outcome for all involved.

Yes it is. Utah State and New Mexico would be the most upset, but I don't think they have the clout to stop it. Rice, UTSA, and North Texas provide big markets. Lousiana Tech has a history with the WAC/MWC, and it brings a competitive product and strong brand. It would probably be the best of both worlds for UTEP. They'd get to return to the MWC, and play some of those schools in crossover games, while also maintaining ties with the Texas schools.

It's their only option unless they want to ask Montana and North Dakota State to move up to FBS. Both could do it and compete immediately.

I don't know about NDSU but Montana does not have the financial backing for the upgraded coaching salaries or the extra 22 scholarships. They were looked at also for the WAC when Boise moved up. I think if they had the money they would have been IA years ago.

Okay I see. You're proposing a division that's far removed from the center of that conference, and that's actually in the east. I don't think they'd want to stretch their geography from coast to coast, but you never know.
