RE: Is the exit fee the same for charter members?
CUSA Presidents and ADs just need to come together and abolish CUSA as a whole. There is absolutely no need for a conference to have schools in El Paso, Norfolk, and Boca Raton...that's dumb. It was dumb to chase TV revenue then. And unless you've got ridiculous brand name teams (which CUSA doesn't), it's dumb to chase TV revenue now.

CUSA needs to liquidate itself and let the market sort it out afterwards via conference invites....see who gets invited where. Those who don't get invited anywhere...can form their own rag-tag conference and re-name it or stay independent, schedule 5 or 6 money games vs Alabama/Ohio State/Florida etc., and 5 or 6 cream puffs/g5ers. You won't have any guaranteed bowl tie-ins but you'll be making bank every year from your money OOC games.

But the real reason we aren’t seeing the revenue is because some of our teams just don’t pull thier weight. USM is part of the problem. They are not the solution

As things stand C-USA is likely to have it's best four to six teams raided, leaving a well gnawed bone behind.

Four is survivable. 6 would be tough. I do not see more than 4 leaving CUSA. But even at 10, certain teams have to pull their weight. The reason the conference is under the illusion of falling behind the belt is because we have too many mouths to feed and they had a good Covid year. ULL will lose 80% of a team that appeared to be very mediocre last week. And they will likely lose their coach.

The issue I have is we don't know who the AAC or Sunbelt view at the 4-6 best teams. I always view my Dawgs from rose colored glasses and like to think that we are close to the top, but you never know in this game.

A 10 team CUSA is just as viable as a 10 team SBC. If they start playing like it. Remeber we had ranked LaTech. Ranked UNT. Ranked WKU. Ranked FAU. So far The Belt got 3 ranked teams and one may not have been ranked on a normal year.

Having been through two different migrations of C-USA's best schools, I can tell you that being left behind sucks hard.

Having been left behind in three different conferences, we feel your pain.

Quote:Memphis has been trying to move from Conference USA since being snubbed when the Big East expanded in 2005, losing a long-time rivalry with Louisville. A departure now would be pricey for the Tigers. The exit fee from Conference USA for 2013-14 is $500,000 plus Memphis’ share of television rights revenue, which is approximately $6.13 million, according to a league spokeswoman.

I just want to point out that this quote was written in a future tense, stating what the fees “would be.” It’s not a report of what Memphis actually ended up paying. Those two figures may or may not be the same.

Regardless, we’ll come up with what we need to in order to get ourselves into a more stable & geographically sensible league. Everybody thinks there’s no money in Hattiesburg, but the problem has just been our past A.D.s’ ineptitude at raising it. McClain’s a different animal, though he goes about things quietly until it’s showtime. He raised the roughly $1.5 M to convert the baseball field to artificial turf in a bit over a week. Will Hall’s base salary would be flirting with 7 figures if Hall hadn’t asked to put the difference into the assistants’ pool. We’ll have $5-6 M if we need it.
