Who won?
If uab, rice, unt, fau, Charlotte, and utsa are aac bound, and USM and Marshall are SB bound, which school wins this round of musical chairs?

Probably UTSA. They are the true rags to riches story there in the shortest amount of time.

RE: Who won?
Whichever AAC add the AAC leftovers hate the most. So probably Charlotte, Rice, or North Texas?
Cause under your scenario where CUSA loses 8/14 members, being left behind is by far the worst scenario. Punching an unexpected ticket to the AAC is easily the biggest win.

Ha! Yeah it''s kind of scary to think what UNT could do if we actually got our crap together on the football field.

Now, see, when you say that it sounds of gloating. When I say that, I actually do care about C-USA, because we're still in it, at least until 2023, and I feel our best seasons were in this league. We grew up here.

RE: Who won?
As has been noted by others, CUSA is losing several schools that have been traditional deadweight and is left with at least 6 programs that have been successful in either basketball or football, and some who've been traditionally successful in both. That is a tremendous core to work with. With the right additions this six school group could be a strong basketball conference with a very strong possibility of being multi-bid in basketball and without the deadweight, the football will be strong as well. I'm actually optimistic.

When the 6 teams exit cusa likely after 2022, you could very well be losing the last 6 football champions of the conference. But yes it's a lot of dead weight.
And that's assuming the conference even sticks together and is able to add liberty , jmu etc. .
If some go to the sun belt that won't be better than the AAC. And you'll be paid less. And the others not in the Sunbelt will be desperate to even field a conference with any warm bodies they can find

Yes, losing the two teams that won the last 4 championships is a loss but if we are losing 8 teams, that's 6 teams that didn't win and several of those six haven't sniffed a conference championship. Three of our leftover six have been in the championship game five times and won it twice in the last seven years. That's a strong core.
Paid less? Of course the money is an issue but that's life in G5. Of course, with exit fees and fewer mouths to feed, money won't be as big an issue initially as you might think. I'm talking about a strong group of schools that perform. With the right additions, we'll be OK and I think better off.

Agree. A lot of deadweight leaving minus UAB. Going to miss playing UAB in all sports.

I am gonna say Rice. They get to play with way more peers in the AAC. SMU, Tulsa, Temple, Tulane, Navy, etc.

UTSA could very well win cusa this year .. rice last won a title only a year before Marshall last won a title. North Texas was runner up in 2017 if you talk that . Charlotte actually has a chance to compete for cusa east this year
Not to mention the people are acting like history will bear the same results as the future. The AAC has elevated many programs. And many of these leaving while they don't have 100 years of football are winning now
And again that's if only 6 go. If 8 or more go cusa would be the worst G5 by far. If it even exists ..

The dregs of the AAC are the winners. They get some more trash teams they can beat for a change.

We can talk if's, maybe's, etc until we are blue in the face. Of course there's a chance that some of these schools leaving will elevate their programs. That's a given. But some won't (see ECU). The same can be said of the leftovers but in a 9 or 10 team league with a strong core of 5 or more traditional winners, CUSA is gonna be fine.
As far as this year goes, UTSA has a great team but there's no guarantee they'll win it all. Heck, WKU could win it or maybe one of the other leftovers. We won't know until the season plays out.
