Dennis Dodd Update
https://www.cbssports.com/college-footba...-and-more/

Quote:The Sun Belt is targeting Southern Miss, Marshall and Old Dominion from Conference USA along with FCS James Madison, as first reported by The Athletic's Chris Vannini.

Conference USA believes it can add James Madison and FBS independent Liberty inside of the next two weeks if details can be worked out, sources tell Dodd. Should C-USA succeed with those additions, it's believed Marshall and Old Dominion would be apt to stay in a nine-team league with C-USA only losing Southern Miss.

So Miss appears to be leaving for the SBC no matter what....which I think everyone expected.

Ugh…..two weeks is a eternity in realignment.

Well I’m sure that means WKU, ODU, and JMU are on deck to be considered.

Although I think many of us hope this is what happens but the part I bolded "believes it can add James Madison and FBS independent Liberty" gives me pause. CUSA's ability to do anything is very suspect.

Nine teams?

Keeps the realignment payout pie to 7 teams...

A lot of good can get done with that.

I also like the tighter league if true. No need to rush adds at that point. MAYBE NMSU for basketball...

I mean, really, I think if Marshall stays, that WKU, MTSU, La Tech and ODU block have worked out an agreement to stay as well.

MAYBE you could pull FIU.

Here is the REAL question.

Would Liberty and JMU rather join the Sun Belt or CUSA?

What? I’m saying if Marshall is coming to the SBC then I’m sure 2 of the other 3 would be on deck to come as well if the Sun Belt goes to 14. I don’t think they come without Marshall.

Gotcha. A LOT of information out there to digest. My bad yo.

They want us about as much as you do. FIU burned every bridge it could on the way out. Genius move.

I'm good with whatever at this point.

But this is all very interesting, if not a little overwhelming.

To be fair, now that FAU is out of the fold, I think if FIU truly wanted to double or triple up on athletics, that would be great.

We all know your ceiling. That would be awesome for you to hit it.

Depends on some things. Will the SBC invite LU? I highly doubt it. Will the CUSA wait too long to invite anyone and appear to have thrown in the towel because of weak leadership…..maybe? Like I said before acting quick is key.

To be fair, it seems as if you have about 75% to 80% of the CUSA boards approval here.

Not sure about Belt fans.

Boards and how your uni prez feels are totally different. I think we won’t get a invite even if that means CUSA dissolves. That won’t mean they will chose dissolving over LU but people are short sighed and will do something that screws them over later.

Step 1. Fire JudY
Step 2. Invite LU and JMU
Step 3. Save CUSA
Step 4: if none of the above happen run like heck to the Sun Belt.

Let's face it. Everyone of the schools would currently prefer the Sun Belt. Even LT.

So this begs the question… if Southern Miss leaves does Liberty have the votes for a CUSA invite?

Would imagine if they fail to get Marshall and ODU, LT or FIU will go with USM.
