Playing regional rivals in the AAC West and getting more games close to my home… Big win for this Rice fan regardless of year to year football fluctuations.
Good for you. Sounds like a win-win situation for most all of us.
Indeed!

Pretty strong statement coming from ESPN employees. Sort of a "punch to the gut" for the American after they just added 6 schools from CUSA.....HA-HA. And I agree with them.
There are two things here, really.
1) Does addition of a decent football FBS program (Marshall), two struggling FBS programs (USM, ODU), and an FCS program make SunBelt better than AAC? I don't know about that
2) It hasn't happened though, yet.

Not better than the MWC or the AAC at this moment. Coastal is good but ranked too high. Top 25 worthy, yes no doubt, but not 14th in the nation. A great win for App though. They needed that win bad after getting embarrassed by ULL last week.

They lose to the first decent school on their schedule. I do doubt that they are Top 25 material.

I think they are fringe T25 material. The offense is Top 15. The D is not.
Apps D is scary good when on point (which we weren't for UL).
Louisiana is the class of the conference right now for sure. Hate that they couldn't get it together at Texas as this could be a special year for them.

You got to take those kinds of comments with a grain of salt, especially considering they are calling a Sun Belt game.
If you see a Houston vs Cincinnati game, they would say the AAC was the best.
San Diego State vs Boise State game....and so on.
True, but I've never heard anything like that said on any of our multiple broadcast platforms during a C-USA game. It would be nice to have a dedicated media cheerleader for once.

How is WKU > JMU? Do you know the accomplishments of JMUs athletics in recent history? The only real building we need is to continue our 2020 success for MBB and sustain it. All other sports and facilities are above par.

How Many FBS Final AP top 25 rankings do you have?
How many Final Fours?
How many NCAA tourney appearances?
How many Women's Final Fours?
WKU- one, one, TWENTY-THREE, two
Football
2002 FCS National Champions
13 Conference Championships
FOUR FBS BOWL Victories
BOWL Record 8-5
Eight players on NFL current Active Rosters (37 all-time)
Several well-known coaches
BASKETBALL
47 20-WIN seasons
43 Conference championships (3rd most in NCAA)
46 NBA Draft picks
15 NIT's
15th most NCAA all-time wins (1,836)
I could give more if needed. A lot more.
Since you brought up recent history, WKU bball has had 20 win seasons the last 5 years (BTW WKU has had 47 twenty win seasons and is ranked 7th all time in NCAA history). How many has JMU had?
lol... not even debatable. They try to compare themselves with ODU the same way and it's laughable, when the facts are presented.

Outside of a UAB team that has limited success in this crappy conference what has the mighty AAC added? Markets? Good. Rice will sew up that Houston market and UAB will certainly steal away some of those Bama TVs. Don’t forget those Texas teams other than Rice. Sorry I forgot who they were. Charlotte? Really? Which Big 12 team are they replacing again? FIU? Or is it FAU? Who cares. You can have both if you want them.
Your conference is gutted and you know it. So does everyone else.

Yes I get it. The AAC added a bunch of dead weight blah blah blah. Southern miss and marshall fans would lump ODU into that group too if they were an AAC add. Now they are going to the sun belt and are a great add..
Sorry but I don't think Texas state , Louisiana Monroe , troy, south Alabama, Georgia state etc are powerhouses either. And if it were us taking ODU and fcs James Madison you guys would laugh at both ....
Top 5-6 in sun belt will be fine. But I don't think it's going to be as good as the AAC
