Southern Miss leads all time series 8-7

If the Future Belters leave after this season, then this likely the last matchup of these two for a very long time.

It's not really a secret, but Aune is an extremely mediocre quarterback. That 4th down pass was as bad as they come.

Okay. I said the other pass was as bad as they come but it's actually that pick-6 pass that is.

Impressed by both teams. Looking forward to our showdowns with each to end the season. Bragging rights for worst in the conference up for grabs. USM really starting to show out here..

Started watching at 14-7 USM only to see that USM safety wiff when trying to lay a shoulder on the goal line on the next play...classic. That 6-yard gap on the right for UNT’s next score is straight out of Butch’s playbook. FIU at USM is going to be one hell of a game.

It's impossible not to feel sympathetic with Southern Miss fans.

They were always a majestic team, full stadium, giant killers. They could stand up and slug it out with the really big boys.

Then they fired a coach because he went 9-3 and 8-4 every year.

I feel bad for USM. They have completely folded the tent. Terrible luck at QB also.

Had to run the family to DQ during halftime and missed 3 MG touchdowns in the 3rd quarter. Maybe I'm the bad luck...

many of their fans here make it easy to not feel sorry for them at all.

Congrats MG, been a tough year, but that was a solid win today.

Some of the Southern Miss fans are really nice. But yes, quite a few still believe they are that giant killer from the 90's. It is sad how far they have fallen. Having said that, UNT isn't much better, and I feel fortunate that we left Hattiesburg with the win today.

Also, in the battle of future AAC/Sun Belt members, UNT took one for the American. It will be interesting to see how these match-ups play out in our conference games as the season wraps up. Right now the American has a 1-0 lead, but Marshall is about to beat FAU, so the record will move to 1-1.

A little history for those that GAS enough to read it. The coach that we fired was replaced by a coach who started us back on a positive trajectory. Recruited with the big boys again including the only 5star we have had in modern history. The precipitous drop started when a horrible hire was made to replace that coach who left for greener pastures as ‘almost’ any of them will. The idiot came in downing the players with news quotes such as “there’s not a player here who could play in the SEC”. That statement was proven false when several of the players had good NFL careers later. Including one ProBowler. He lost the team almost immediately. Many good players left and he got fired after a 0-11 season. Next came Tod Monken. An absolutely great coach and good recruiter. Got us to the CG and left for the NFL -A WEEK BEFORE NATIONAL SIGNING DAY! So the smart people panic and hire another complete loser. He wins a game against Kentucky with Monken’s players. Can’t recruit for chit loses a bunch more players and games and then quits after losing to USA in the first game of the season in ‘20. Three or four head coaches later that same year with 0 recruiting and you get what we have now. 60 players on scholarship. Playing 8 quarterbacks. And probably the youngest team in FBS. It’s a miracle we have beaten one SWAC team.

Will it get better?

I don’t know but it really can’t get any worse. Seems the players we have are still playing hard so maybe this coach can get it turned around. I hope so.

I believe Will Hall is a very capable coach who will build y'all back strong. Have been following him since his days at West Alabama. It's a tough job for sure, but I believe by the time y'all are in the FunBelt you should be back to competing at a fairly high level.

He looks like a Heisman candidate compared to what Southern Miss has left to play with at this point. The QBs have gifted opposing defenses 4 TDs the past 2 weeks.

As a Southern Miss fan, I will just continue to support these players and staff as they finish the season and, more importantly right now, rebuild this roster through the next signing class and transfers.

Yep... I decided not to punish my liver this season due to USM football. I did that in 2012. Was not pretty..
