RE: Colgate
Might be new to this board but have followed NU BB since my undergrad days (lived next to Pete Harris and use to play pickup games with him at Cabot). Was a member of the AE board when NU was in that league and the CAA board when it was active. May not post much but it's not like there are a lot of posts on this board to respond to either (one reason I didn't join earlier is there isn't much action here). If you don't want more participation just say so. And surprised you thought I "piled on" as my comment was consistent with most other comments regarding this game.

What are you talking about? My comment was directed at Huskydog who signed up on November 4th.

Although, I was surprised to see your comment that the team underperforms every year and wins just enough for Coen to keep his job. Most CAA teams would kill for our results and most agree that Coen is the best coach in the league. Doesn't sound like you follow the team that closely.

I am sorry NUGUY, was I supposed to ask your permission to post on this board? We have a handful of people in and around NU that even know who Bill Coen is. I have been reading all of these boards for years and laugh at the misinformation strewn around as fact. Shouldn't the welcome wagon would be out for new informed posters here?

LOL cute. Not going to be coming from me. What a horrible mentality, we are all NU people here and you go out of your way to alienate. There is no wonder why we dont have a cohesive or established fan base.

Since you quoted my thread I assumed you were talking about me.

I guess if barely being above .500 and losing to a lower seeded team in the CAA tourney is what every team wants, which is essentially Coens record, (and don't nitpick about the few times they did better) then OK. NU should have higher aspirations. And I've followed NU BB since the Caligaris/Calhoun days.

There are some really good philosophical questions and themes in here, but I think we need to move it to a separate thread where it can get more attention and we a little more civil maybe. I'm creating one now!

NU is back on the court tonight hosting Colgate at Matthews Arena.

Let’s hope Shaq and Djogo can play. At the very least Walters.

Shaq has played and TSG has also, though he still seems to be on a minutes restriction. Now for the game....

If not for the 2nd half at Harvard, this would have been the worst half of the year. No ball movement on offense, unforced turnovers and absolutely zero sense of purpose on the defensive end Shooters are coming free off screens like it’s an instructional video. The 2nd half can’t be worse

RE: Colgate
As bad as the 1st half was, the 2nd was equally as tremendous. NU wins 74-69 and overcomes a 14 point halftime deficit. 5 in double figures (TSG-Chris-Shaq-Jason-Telfort) and only ONE second half turnover. Great 2 wins to start the homestand. Keep building.

Complete turnaround. Way more intensity, especially on defense, in the second half. A good reminder of what happens when you play hard. Can't wait to see what the team looks like when Djogo returns.

RE: Colgate
I was at the game.

NU was dreadful in the 1st half, Colgate hit a ton of 3’s and they got every loose ball and got baskets off them.

2nd half, TSG, Telfort and Walters made them work too hard on the offensive end and we killed them in the paint driving to the basket.

It was probably the best win of the season considering we were down 20 in the 2nd half.

Tonight made me feel like we have something to get excited about. Like everyone has been saying, this could be the start of something good.

We really need to get Djogo and Stucke back, especially Djogo. The length and athleticism of TSG, Shaq and Telfort will cause a lot of problems for teams.

Did you consider leaving at halftime?

PS.....Allow me to add to this.......The length and athleticism of TSG, Shaq, Telfort, Strong and Djogo will cause a lot of problems for teams.

As great as he played tonight, I would replace Doherty with Strong.

Our best lineup is TSG, Walters, Telfort, Djogo and Doherty. But I also think Strong needs to start because he’s a much better player starting. He’s been dreadful coming off the bench.

Interesting thought. Strong's stats ARE much worse as a non-starter. Only part of that can be explained by the extra minutes he's gotten as a starter. I don't think that he will replace Doherty but let's say Doherty gets injured later in the season. Last year Strong didn't work out as the five. I remember when Strong started against Hofstra's center he was lit up for twenty something points and Emanga replaced him in the rematch and held him to single digits. Strong, is 210 on a good day, seems too light to guard fives. But Djogo is 230. If he filled in for Doherty you could have Strong and Telfort up front with Shaq and Tyreek in the backcourt. Not only would you have a five with an outside shot but you would have as close to a "non-positional team" as we have ever had.
