RE: 0 for independence
Frank the Tank, the issue was UMass would not commit to all sports at the time. Attendance shows that basketball is not popular unless you are a winning program at UMass. We have one true rival in the A10 with Rhode Island. Their AD was our former acting AD and football alum. He will always being willing to schedule UMass as a OOC game. There is a rumor CUSA presidents meeting in early December. It will be interesting if the meeting agenda is released and comments afterwards.

That rumor is UNTRUE. Also please see my post shortly ago.
C-USA is "frozen" on expansion considerations until NCAA convention and CFP future and monies are decided. Schools (FCS) they are talking to are also unwilling to act till things become more clear about the future of FBS/G5 football.

About the same, if the estimated numbers reported are accurate, but the AAC will be operating on a two-tiered structure so the legacy members will get a bit more and the new members will get less. Big East is up for a new contract in a few years, so that's a question mark, while the AAC recently started a new deal. CFP money is a future wildcard as well.
If it’s “about the same” (I’d like more info). Then Temple should consider independence + Big East and have Army/UCONN/UMass/FCS and 8 others on their Indy schedule.
Oh, to be clear, Villanova will never let that happen. I was just using it as an example of a situation where independence may make sense for a school.

Thanks, that is very good news and actually makes sense. It also gives all parties time to adjust citing new information. Want all sports, being the MAC but would accept the unrealistic travel of CUSA.

Pretty dumb of Villanova, Temple is a good fit for the Big East. OT: I think Saint Louis or Dayton would be the best adds if the Big East expands.

1) Notre Dame: for obvious reasons
2) Military Academies: for their history and tradition
3) Religious Universities: For their resources and backing
If you are not one of these three kinds of schools, then you should do your best to find a league to join.
I am not even sure about #3. BYU and Liberty are joining conferences because they knew they had a glass ceiling as an Indy.
Eh, not really. People swore up and down that BYU would have to eventually rejoin the MW, with independence being a counterproductive exercise driven by pride. In reality it worked out fine and got them more money and better schedules for about a decade. Liberty's only FBS in the first place because of their willingness to go indy.
The realigned Big 12 without Texas and Oklahoma isn't exactly the PAC invite that BYU wanted/wants, but both schools went into independence with a clearly-defined purpose and largely achieved what they set out to do.
BYU wasn't failing per se, but they had a ceiling as an Indy. Bronco Mendenhall even said as much.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nc.../80756712/
Mendenhall believed there was a ceiling and that BYU had hit it. However, it seemed Sitake has been able to sustain some success and the schedule had improved presenting more opportunity. Though joining the Big 12 will make life easier in many ways (scheduling, recruiting).
