Saw this on secrant. It also says that Texas won't leave before Oklahoma. If that is the case, what will the next 3 years of conference affiliations look like?

Interesting. So does the Big12 go to 14 in 2023? Have the new schools announced entry dates?

Oh please. The SEC has more in the cup holder in their car than what OU needs.

The SEC apparently has long told them they aren’t giving either team a dime to help them move. Either they pay to move early on their own or they don’t move.

Lol. This is nonsense. With the cash flow they will gain from the SEC deal they could get a low interest loan literally tomorrow.

They have the money but clearly they don’t want to spend it, or they want an excuse to delay the move for some reason. Either way it explains why there has been no more talk of further expansion.

Yeah, Oklahoma has enough $$ to do whatever the heck they want when they want.

Just another negotiation ploy. There will be a bunch more in the next year while each side waits for the other to blink. They are gone before the 24’ season.

(Feel like this should have been posted in Conference Realignment board or Big12 board instead of the AAC board)

They aren't ready to compete in the SEC yet. So the strategy is probably to wait and recruit as a pseudo-SEC team for awhile.

I hope UCF, Cincy, and Houston join before they depart. Give them a nice parting shot like we did to Louisville when they exited.

It would be amazing if a newcomer won the Big12 while Texas and OU were still in the conference.

i think it would be hilarious for BXII to bring on the new comers then make Texas and OU travel to Cincy,Houston, Orlando and Provo every year until they leave. I don't know if the schedulers have the stones to go full scorched earth, but the Schadenfreude lover in me would be overjoyed to see it.

I have no information, but I wonder if they had some backlash from bigger boosters. TX and OK are big deals in the BXII, in the SEC they are just another set of teams and may never sniff an SEC championship. I would not be happy about the move if I was a TX/BXII fan, perhaps some others who matter are the same.

I saw that too...this guy is certainly not a reliable major news writer or source, but he is a B12 guy and has sources. He is most tied in with Ok. State.

Things have been quiet on the 2nd round of B12 expansion lately. Still waiting for Pac 12 media deal and TX/OU departure announcements before I think you could start hearing things again.

I believe the B12 has a 2nd round expansion plan in place. Doesn't mean they will execute it...just that they have it in place from last summer.

This is first I have seen SDSU in place of SMU. If anything were to go down, I just don't see that happening over SMU.

Why would the schools in the SEC pay for anyone's 100 million exit fee when they can just wait an extra year or two? Ive said it before---the only option I see is if ESPN, the Big12, and OU/OT work together to create the fix. The only early exit fix I see is the LHN. Texas cant take it with them and the LHN already exists with almost as many subscribers as the Pac12 Network. Rather than shutter it when UT goes to the SEC---give it to the Big12 and rebrand it as the Big12 Network. This would give the Big12 a new revenue stream that would continue paying money into the conference for years down the road and would remove the Big12 stigma as the only P5 without a conference network. In exchange for this long term revenue stream, the exit fee's for OU and OT are reduced to something more manageable. Otherwise---I just dont see a cost effective way for UT/OU to leave early. Its just too expensive even for those massive high revenue programs.

That said---my understanding is that part of the Big12 strategy is to keep UT and OU in the Big 12 as long as possible while the newbies come in. The idea is that giving the move up teams a couple of years of playing in a BIg12 that includes UT/OU would help better build and establish the "P5" image for the new schools among the general public.

Exactly, P. That guy has been wrong about everything he said for years and years now concerning realignment.

If OU and Texas wait until 2025 isn’t it likely that Saban is gone or on the way out by then?
