Gasparilla Bowl - Any COVID hospitalizations or deaths reported?
Since we've heard about a number of bowls being canceled, I'm wondering if anyone has heard about COVID-related hospitalizations or deaths arising from anyone who was at the Gasparilla Bowl. There were over 60K people there, and I believe there were more than half of them not masked. Social distancing? Forget it; no way anyone could have done that there. I think we need to look at the bowl games that have been played, and the ones that will be played, look at the hospitalization and death statistics, and come to some sort of rational, fact-based conclusions.

Ding!
Think the OP's post was for another board as over 109 Million people (thats 109,000,000 plus in the US) are traveling for the holidays...and those traveling for bowl games is such a small percentage of that number.
Many of us are vaxxed and boosted and while being careful, still enjoying the holidays...including a great UCF Bowl Game win at our 2nd home stadium in Tampa!

That's the point of this exercise. To cull the herd by identifying the intelligent ones then demonize them. Once you've done that, let the halfwits kill them. Problem solved. You're left with a totally controlled society that lacks the intelect and morals to fight back.

Please stop. We all know it was just an excuse for these teams to get out of playing the bowls not pertaining to covid. If it was, you would be seeing many more games cancelled.

Problem is that both sides think they are the intelligent one and the other side are the halfwits. While the ones in power that don’t give a crap about either side remains in power and keeps feeding them idiotic issues to keep them fighting with each other.

RE: Gasparilla Bowl - Any COVID hospitalizations or deaths reported?
I’m enjoying reading the discussion on this topic so far. I appreciate everyone not getting too worked up over this even if you’re not on the same page with my thinking here.
I want to be clear because I believe my original post could be misinterpreted. Are the reasons that these bowl games were canceled valid? Did those who chose to have their bowl games take a grave risk? I tend to be on the side of people who want all of the games to be played for a number of reasons. Those who believe bowl games need to be shut down over a virus that, statistically speaking, usually has the same characteristics as a common cold should present evidence, in my opinion. Case numbers aren’t enough. Cases of people getting the cold are high, but there’s a reason we’ve never bothered counting them; because the cold doesn’t tend to be a serious illness. This appears to be the case with this omicron virus. Like the cold, it’s highly transmissible, but the data that so far exists doesn’t support it tending to be dangerous. Maybe some bowls have been canceled for good reason, and maybe they haven’t, but if the reasons are truly justified, let’s hear the arguments of the people who made the decision to cancel. I believe we should also listen to those who decided to go ahead with their bowl games. I hate seeing these players, these fans who waited with anticipation to see their teams in these bowls lose a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity over something that we now have multiple vaccines, medicines, antibodies, etc. for.
So I hope that clears up what I was saying. :-) Prove me and others right, or prove us wrong, but let’s get the truth out in the open.

What are the statistics that you are stating in the bolded part.

If you watched the Gasparilla bowl on tv without a mask you're probably going to die.*

Nope...just being sarcastic. I did have a fever the last 2 days. Probably got it...not worried. Figured traveling to multiple states and a sold out football game would do it.

RE: Gasparilla Bowl - Any COVID hospitalizations or deaths reported?
Is this the right question though? I thought the games were canceled due to one of the teams being unable to field enough players to safely play the game. The football season seems to give evidence that large crowds outside tend to not be major spreaders. Perhaps the protocol for anyone that tests positive needs some adjustments and they have done some of that. But if players have to be pulled out based on the rules for a positive test and you combine that with players preparing for the draft that chose not to participate and those that decide to enter the transfer portal then do the math. If you don't have enough players at certain positions and suddenly you move an unprepared player into the lineup in a position they have never played before then don't things get dangerous quickly?

Glad you were able to the game (couldn't afford it). People get sick staying home, too.
