Hopefully, she or someone has already started working on this to keep it from being a burden on any remaining schools.
If it were me, divisions would be Charlotte, FAU, FIU, MTSU, and WKU in the east and LaTech, North Texas, Rice, UTEP, and UTSA in the west. UAB would be the middle school and could go to either division.
Unless one of the FCS schools come up early, it would be uneven as one division would play five division games and three cross-division games, and the other would play four division games and four cross-division games.
FWIW, I've heard that there's either a lack of urgency from the two rising FCS schools and a lack of push from C-USA to get either exempt and FBS eligible for next year as what is being done wit JMU, so it might be an 11-school conference in 2022.

One would think that NMSU and/or Liberty would be able to move by 2022 as they al Independents.

Contracts with multiple schools, some of which might have trouble finding replacement games. Could be an expensive proposition.

possibly, but more likely UAB if it's just one first.

How about UTEP, Louisiana Tech, MTSU, WKU and FIU in one division, and North Texas, UTSA, Rice, UAB, Charlotte and FAU in the other? Then add the crossover games to minimize travel?

THIS makes the most sense to 'transition' if they go to the 6-5 divisions for 2022... we all have to traverse the continent at least a few times a season anyway, so... shouldn't be too much different in that respect...

It WOULD be pretty cool for we UABers to be able to jump into the AAC for 2022, but then again, there is a sense of the 'gang of 6' having to jump in all together, whenever, that overrides the 'early jump' scenario for me... I'd feel a bit weird being the 'scout team' sent out first... or whatever... 03-drunk

And as to Liberty and/or NMSU jumping in for 2022... I know schedules are 'set' for them, but if the SunBelt 'movers' happen in 2022, there will be some openings for other teams there... Lord knows the past few seasons have demonstrated that schedules are anything but 'set in stone', so I figure chairs can be shuffled around to make things happen, IF the 'powers that be' want it to...

...oh yeah - I also remember UAB back in 2000 - not sure if we had an odd # of teams in the conference, or we weren't 'totally' in the conference yet, or whatever - but we had to designate one nonconference opponent as a 'conference game' - and the choice was either LSU or Kansas... well, duh, which one is the more likely win - KU of course... so what do we do - go down to Baton Rouge and BEAT LSU, then turn around and come home and LOSE to KU... Watson Brown era UAB in a nutshell right there... 03-drunk03-lmfaoCOGS

Agree with this. Just wanted to add that the Big Ten played with 11 teams for many years as well.

We still don’t know anything for sure. The ODU president made comments that they would like to join the Sunbelt in July 2022. A guy from The Atlantic said the final decision and schedule should be hashed out in January.

I know from some people closely associated with the LU athletics department that most of the contracts were written with a clause in case a conference invite came.

All the reports coming out of those in the know around Marshall are saying we are leaving this year (2022), and that the other 3 joining the SBC will be going then too, with the exact status of JMU still in question. A month ago I thought it was 50/50 if we stay until 2023, but now it's looking close to 95%+ that this summer is when the moves will happen.

Ideally all the conferences moves should be made this year so we can all move on and adjust to our new situations. The moves by SBC schools to be should not be a problem.

The rest of the moves have to wait until the new Big 12 schools are gone from the AAC since they dont't want 17 teams for 2022.

RE: 2022 Football Schedule?
We have already seen that the contract excuse doesn't hold water. Last year schools were jumping all over the place scheduling games on Monday and playing that Saturday. And this year's bowl season has again shown how quickly things can get done when all parties involved cooperate.

Now, I understand that the Big 12 might be the holdup, unless the SEC opens the door sooner to Texas and Oklahoma.

I agree with those, on all sides, wishing our conference shakeup was settled this summer, 2022. That is not likely to happen though.

I'd prefer no divisions if we play a year with 11 teams. Just send the top 2 to the title game like AAC has done recently.

Marshall and App State were scheduled to play OOC next season, so there are two potential OOC games for Liberty or NMSU's scheduled OOC.

It doesn't answer too many questions about the rest of the CUSA schedules, but at least you know we're (probably) off the table for 2022. JSU at least will probably have some open slots available, so we could possibly help fill some of the vacated games, but we'd count as an FCS opponent, so some teams wouldn't have room to give for a sub-FBS team.

I thought all of the transitioning schools would count as FBS on our schedules.

I don't think that's ideal. Travel is easier if we still have the current 14 schools. So, the later that all changes, the better.
