Best game at Trask ever. No contest. I was at the game as a student. Went from loudest to quietest place i'd ever been in 3 seconds. David Robinson and Navy.

ESPN has us a 5 point favorite with 63.5% chance of winning. The over/under is 133.5.
Finally we are favored. Not sure I like that.

Old 70sHawk was at that game (top level, end zone). In those days with the "full bleachers" Trask was an absolute snake pit when it was filled up. You can see it in the video.
Could you imagine being the visiting team in that environment?
(That Navy team went to the Elite 8 that year. Robinson scored 50 points against Michigan in that game. The only guy in the CAA who could handle him at all was Brian Rowsom. )

The battles with Robinson molded Rowsom into an NBA level player over the years. He learned how to score and defend against one of the best big men in the history of basketball. Robinson was ahead of his time as a 7 footer with guard skills. Nobody had ever seen anyone like him on a basketball court at the time.
There hasn't been a game like that Trask since. Completely sold out game with students camping out. Hasn't happened since.

I don't think there can be. With the current seating arrangement you couldn't get that many people in, and even a sold-out /students camping out situation wouldn't bring the same per-person intensity level with the more 'comfortable' seating arrangements.
Look at that video of people standing up packed into the bleachers. I don't think that crowd could have all sat down even if they had wanted to. There wasn't room. It was like a big gym with a mass of fans crowding the floor.
Interestingly enough, neither Robinson nor Rowsom was very highly recruited out of high school, Rowsom less so than Robinson. It was amazing what happened with both of them.

Back to the subject at hand. For all the same reasons as before i'm predicting a UNCW win. Mike has been in a funk lately but i'm looking for the home crowd to pump him up and get him back on track. He's been taking a lot of three's lately as Phillips and Sims have been our primary guards getting to the basket. But driving and finishing is the bread and butter move for Mike, so I look for him to get back to his basics.

It was his head band. Nobody wanted that dirty BS. It went straight back to the court.

JJ's shoe also came off in that game and he kicked it across the court out of frustrastration.

They are also more militant about seating and crowd flow
If you watch the video after the game, student flowed onto the court.
If a student went on the court now after the game they would be suspended

It sounds like Thursday night’s crowd should approach the 5,000 range, and if so, it will most certainly affect the game. This UNCW team feeds on energy, and once it gets rolling, it can put up points in a hurry and have fun doing it.
Great article BWN, loved the analysis on the uniform success rate

Back to tonite's game - We can't afford any type of letdown. We just beat this team a few days ago in a tough road game. I am sure n-eastern is wanting revenge plus their winless record in not indicative of their potential. Being home for the first time in a while should not bring a false sense of security but beware. Lastly, they shouldn't look past this game to Saturday's match up with hofstra.
I know I sound pessimistic but it carries over from my coaching days.
My advice? Keep your mind on the business at hand. These guys could be a tough out!

I hate the fact that Northeastern is winless. They are a much better team than their record. The Hawks should win at home, but every streak comes to an end sometime and I don't like these two streaks meeting up again. Every team in the CAA is fully capable of beating every other team.
As long as UNCW starts out with high energy, continues to avoid the "two passes then shoot a three" offense, and practices tenacious defense I think we win. But, boy, slip at all and then....
