Right! The discussion here occurred after her second season in which she dramatically improved on the first. Going from 12-19/4-14 to 18-12/ 11-7. The the casual fan that doesn't pay much attention, that alone gives reason for folks to be optimistic. Sadly, it went downhill from there.
Womens basketball is the biggest money loser of any sport except for the very few that make money. You have to have it you are just trying to cut losses

You and I are in lockstep agreement on this, and yes, that's exactly how I recall it went down when she was hired. She was a big disappointment at ODU but we felt maybe she'd do better at a big step down in programs by coming here.
The logic made sense with the hire. It didn't work. Oh well. What did we have to lose? The program was bad when she arrived, and had been for years, and is bad after her firing. What else is new. Now lets try something new.
Oh, and its important to note I don't think we've had much in the way of significant academic or off-the-court shortcomings under Coach Barefoot's watch, unlike her predecessor. She also seems like a good person. She deserves credit for all of that. She just didn't win enough basketball games At least she kept the program respectable in all other aspects, from all accounts. That wasn't enough to keep her job; she definitely needed to perform a lot better in year 5 to justify a 6th season. But she certainly didn't make things harder for whichever HC takes over next.

No one said anything about profitable = successful. The difference is schools tend to package their 3 main sports together for marketing and when WBB is one of those 3 main sports, it helps to be successful.

You don’t have to be a total a$$hole in order to win. I’m sure Siddle is tough on his guys but also demonstrates he cares. As long as Tina does that then the style works even with todays generation. But if players don’t think you care then it just comes off as abuse. Who knows. Tina seems fine to me but I’m not in practices with her.
