"They said, well we want to arbitrate your departure and arbitrate whether you can leave early."
Huh. Weird of CUSA to have proposed that, I wonder how they got the idea?
He presents it like it was this unreasonable concept, especially the location (which is especially ironic).
"It sure would be nice if these children to play better in the sandbox together."
Right. As in, "we just want them to give us what we want." And "we'd be better off debating that without a neutral party that might consider us in the wrong and cost us more money or what we want."
I do appreciate the honestly of "we want the best chance to get what we want and that's the main reason for wanting this in a Virginia court rather than a neutral arbitrator." That's sort of my issue with so much of the hand-wringing and name calling around these message boards. Both sides have an interest and those interests don't line up so both sides are fighting for their best interests. There is zero high ground in all the "but they won't even return our calls" whining. There is probably a better case for the "just fulfill the contract you signed up for or at least go through the arbitration process you agreed to in order to dispute the contract you agreed to" but eventually (unfortunately) even that high ground is going to run into the practical realities of the situation. Might as well just say "we're doing what we think gives us the best chance to get what we want."
But he's making the stupid divorce analogy. Universities and conferences aren't people Dr. Selig!
Kudos for slipping ODU into the murderer's row lineup about how tough the SB East will be. Not sure that's the fear, but yeah, technically y'all are in the division.
