RE: Total Revenues by School
the information that people really want to see is easily found for most public universities here

https://cafidatabase.knightcommission.org/fbs

lets take north Texas state as an example

https://cafidatabase.knightcommission.or...orth-texas

354 total athletes

"Where The Money Comes From"

in 2020

$40.6 million in "revenues"
$13.51 million coming from student fees
$16.8 million in "institutional support" (money from academics not collected from student fees, but in Texas coming from student tuition even with a student fee)

so $30.31 million came off the backs of academics
$10.29 was actually generated from athletics

they also have an "impressive" $79.52 million in athletics debt vs the CUSA median of $23.45

$6.96 million on non-coaching athletics administration
$7.68 on coaching

$11.1 in athletics facility and equipment expenses
$4.18 in game day expenses and travel
$1.68 in ticket sales
$2.34 in sponsorships

lets compare to 3 other Texas universities that will have the same state mandates and restrictions

UTEP

305 total athletes

$32.17 in total revenues

$8.69 student fees
$13.86 in other academic side transfers

total $22.55 from the academic side

$9.62 in non-academic side revenues

$5.34 administration
$6.1 coaches
$4.93 facilities and equipment
$3.9 game day and travel

$23.45 in athletics debt (way to be CUSA average)

UTSA

386 total athletes

$29.95 total revenues

$13.91 student fees
$8.27 academic transfers
$21.18 total

$8.77 non-academic revenues

$5.78 administration
$6.48 coaches

$3.73 in facilities and equipment expenses
$3.93 in game day expenses and travel
$1.35 million in ticket sales
$2.6 million in corporate ads and sponsorship

$1.41 million in athletics debt <--- this is where some make the Do NoT oWn ThEiR oWn StAjIuM argument come in to sound stupid as if $3.73 in facilities and equipment expenses, $3.93 in game day expenses and travel, $1.35 million in ticket sales, and $2.6 million in corporate ads and sponsorship.......is worse than $11.1 in athletics facility and equipment expenses, $4.18 in game day expenses and travel, $1.68 in ticket sales, $2.34 in sponsorships

so congratulations oWnInG yOuR oWn StAjIuM got you $70,000 more in ticket sales and sponsorships while having $7.62 million more in facilities/equipment, and game day expenses......sounds like a hell of a return on that ApPlE tReE StAjIuM investment!!!

and lets not forget the $22 million more in dept

Texas State

352 total athletes

$35.11 million in revenue

$19.78 student fees
$8.58 academic side transfers

total $28.36

$6.75 in non-academic side revenues

$4.48 administration
$5.48 coaching

$12.18 facilities and equipment
$3.1 game day expenses and travel
$0.85 ticket sales
$1.25 sponsorships

$60.8 million in athletics dept

so really high spending on coaches, administration, high debt and debt service and lots of academic side subsidies only pays off at best marginally in any type of revenues for athletics and really does not seem to pay off at all competitively and just means you can fleece your students for a lot of money to waste
