#1 NU hosts #8 BC Saturday night at 7:30pm on NESN+.

The two teams have split 4 games this season (including NU’s Beanpot win), but BC comes in pretty hot right now.

The winner tomorrow night advances to the HE semifinals at the TD Garden next week.

Here’s Coach Keefe’s preview…

#1 seed NU advances to the HE semifinals with a 3-2 win over #8 BC at Matthews Arena.

After a scoreless 1st period, NU jumped out to a 3-0 lead on goals by Gunnarwolf Fontaine, Justin Hryckowian and Sam Colangelo.

NU getting back freshman forward Hryckowian was HUGE. It was his first game back since the Beanpot and he's our best face-off player.

But in the 3rd with about 11 minutes left BC got a PP goal to cut it to 3-1 and later 3-2 to put NU on their heels a bit. Devon Levi made 46 saves to help preserve the win.

NU will face # 4 UConn in the semis at TD Garden Friday, March 18 at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast on NESN.

Huskies vs Huskies in one semifinal and UMass-Amherst vs. UMass-Lowell in the other.

RE: 2022 Hockey East Tourney
Huge win. We are very close to an NCAA tournament berth. I think we can't drop lower than 14th in the pairwise at this point, so even a loss vs UConn means we can still make it with some favorites knocking out bubble bursters in the conference tourneys.

Crazy how much Hockey East has declined in the past decade. There won't be any 1 or 2 seeds from HE and the regular season champ is a bubble team...

Anyway, big win, Levi played great. Timely scoring.

#1 NU takes on #4 UConn this afternoon (4:30) in the semifinals at the TD Garden.

More importantly NU is 14 in the Pairwise and a win would cement an at-large bid if they lose in the finals. A loss and NU with 25 wins, could miss out (Top 16 in PW make tourney unless a team gets an automatic bid).

Here’s Coach Keefe, Jordan Harris and Julian Kislin presser from Thursday…

#1 NU lost to #4 UConn 4-1 at the Garden.

Aiden McDonough tied the game at 1 with his 24th goal of the season, but NU seemed flat for some reason.

They now have to wait and see if they can get in as an at-large. Need Quinnipiac, UMass and Minnesota-Duluth to win tonight. Otherwise, our bubble will burst.

RE: 2022 Hockey East Tourney
10th ranked NU will find out who and where they will play in the NCAA Tournament.

The tournament selection show is tonight at 6:30 on ESPNU.

NU basically needed any combination of two of the three top seeds in their conference tournaments to win, Quinnipiac in the ECAC, Minnesota State in the CCHA and UMass in our league. NU was 14th in the Pairwise and the top 16 get in if you don’t get an automatic bid.

All three championship games, Harvard vs. Quinnipiac… Bemidji State vs. Minnesota State… and UConn vs. UMass went to OT!

So NU had to sweat it out big time. UMass won first, helping us. Then Minny State beat Bemidji meaning NU can celebrate since that put them in.

But wait… the game-winning goal was being reviewed by CCHA officials. After a 40-minute delay, Minnesota State's OT goal was disallowed. The CCHA championship game had to continue. So they had to bring back the officials back who were getting ready to leave and the players. Northeastern wasn’t in NCAAs yet!! Meanwhile, Harvard upset Quinnipiac, leaving Ohio State and Clarkson out!

Twitter went nuts, especially as you can imagine, NU fans and the Northeastern Hockey Blog. The game resumed at 10:43 last night.

Fortunately, Minny State scored 5 minutes later and after another review (although it was a no doubt about it goal) NU got the help they needed.

Crazy night!!
