RE: #5 Delaware - GAME 30 - CAA FINAL
Sims was the only UNCW player to score more than TWO POINTS in the second half. TWO. WTF?
That is one of the most embarassing statistics I have ever seen. How is that even possible? Why were they on the court?

Tough loss. Really can’t help but feeling we let a big opportunity slip tonight, but I like where we’re headed.

I wonder how many grandkids George Evans had then. By now I shudder to think of all his descendants...

If Sims really does leave we have some very big shoes with fill next year with two of our top 3 scorers leaving and our starting (guard lol) C

May be addition by subtraction. It was obvious in the tournament the coaches and players became too reliant on waiting on Sims to score. Can't go one on five and win games.

The CBI is still pay for play
The CIT has been rebranded The Basketball Classic and of Wikipedia is true, "All gate receipts will be collected by The Basketball Classic. Schools can host games in the tournament without the responsibility of an additional financial commitment"
Little constellation for sure but it would be nice for this team to get another gamr

Yeah, well that is on the coaches and players. His leadership will be tough to replace too. Who’s to say we don’t become reliant on watching Shy next year? That philosophy has to change

Rebounding finally caught up with us
Charleston dominated last night but couldn't convert 2md chance points. Delaware was able to capitalize and in the end ge that key rebound of the FT miss

Why would you give the ball to Phillips at crunch time ? Sims has to be the first option in that spot and then he takes a step back 3 ? Hawks had plenty of chances but Delaware scouting report and adjustments were the difference. The big kid also exposed UNCW’s lack of size .

Not sure I agree with you.
If a team is going to just say they went to a post season tournament, I don't see the big deal either. If you get the chance to go and you do so with the intent on actually trying to win the whole thing, that's another matter entirely.

It caught up in the second half because White and Kelly were keeping the bench warm. Period. Different game if they had actually played in the second half.

Not only did Kelly grab some boards but he contested a lot of the chippies that came east in half 2

I think we can field a good team next year. After getting some key pieces, the staff will be able to blend known commodities like Shy, White, Harvey, Kelly and Thomas plus Samb and McGriff with new pieces. Guys can work to improve their skills as well.
Rebounding/ interior D and improved perimeter shooting are 2 areas that can improve. Having another guy that can get his own shot wouldn’t hurt because Sims checked that box. Ross sounds like he can step in and help in several categories but he will be a freshman.

All I ask is that we get a transfer or recruit that has pure size. We just get absolutely killed on the inside and we need someone to backup/play with Kelly. McGriff needs to hit the ground running if he wants to contribute

Helluva season. Lack of depth scoring really really reared it’s head. Just had no one outside of Jaylen Sims who we could rely on when it came down to it. When Sims was being shut down who else could we expect to step up?

Also officially going to get to play more basketball in the CBI in Daytona against 15 other schools. March 19-23.

Okauru, Phiilips, Harvey, Kelly, White? The glaring issue with Sims as the man is that he isn't a distributor and he plays PG. Haven't even looked, but I doubt we had more than two assists in the second half since we only had five for the game. One on one play with literally one player looking to score. Mike took TWO shots in the second half and Harvey never stepped on the court. Our offense looked far better in the first half when Sims was on the bench because everyone else was FORCED to step up and they did. Sims played the entire second half and it looked like our plan was for him to shoot every time unless we had no other choice.
