...it's the 'Kentucky Effect' (sorry WKUFan 03-drunk ) in that the 'one and done' system is NEVER going to produce consistent results, which is now obviously exacerbated by the Transfer Portal...

I remember when Demarcus Cousins was 'committed' to UAB, but on the condition that he could 'leave options open' after his first season (obviously transferring was more of an ordeal back then), UAB's coach at the time - Mike Davis - passed on him as a result, which I generally agreed with at the time (if the scenario unfolded in 2022, I would have a much different take on it)...

Of course, Cousins went on to Memphis (but I don't think he even played a game there), then to Kentucky (followed Calipari)... and although they DID reach the Elite Eight in his single season there, to me it set the precedent of the 'one-and-done' which ultimately led to the creation of the Transfer Portal... for better or (most likely) worse.

On average, there will be a few teams here and there who will be successful with the 'revolving door' system, but for the most part, the teams still alive in the tourney seem to be the 'traditional multi-year' guys which allow a team to mature and develop for tourney success...
