1st Round Thoughts/Alternate Seedings
1) Why continue in Dayton, then turn around and fly across the country to Fort Worth, Portland, and two teams to San Diego.

Why not just have the games where they are going to end up?

RE: 1st Round Thoughts
If the bracket was set up like some want (all 8 1st round games involve 16-seeds), we'd have
11-seeds: Iowa State, Michigan, Wyoming, Rutgers
12-seeds: Indiana, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, UAB
13-seeds: Richmond, NMSU, UTC, South Dakota St
14-seeds: Vermont, Akron, Longwood, Yale
15-seeds: Colgate, Montana State, Delaware, St. Peters
16-seeds: Jacksonville State, CS-Fullerton, Ga State, Norfolk State
17-seeds: Wright State, Bryant, Tx Southern, TAMU-CC

Teams in Red get pushed down a seed line.
Teams in Blue now have a play-in game

I'd sign up for that. My only fear is that CBS/Turner would not want that as the games would not be very good in the First Four.

RE: 1st Round Thoughts
Alternately, the last 8 at-larges should do the play-ins, not the auto-bids that EARNED it.

10 seeds: San Fran, Loyola (IL), Miami/Davidson, Iowa State/Michigan
11 seeds: UAB, Va Tech, Indiana/Notre Dame, Wyoming/Rutgers
12-seeds: Richmond, NMSU, UTC, South Dakota St
13-seeds: Vermont, Akron, Longwood, Yale
14-seeds: Colgate, Montana State, Delaware, St. Peters
15-seeds: Jacksonville State, CS-Fullerton, Ga State, Norfolk State
16-seeds: Wright State, Bryant, Tx Southern, TAMU-CC

I'd prefer my second scenario - next post

RE: 1st Round Thoughts
I'd actually prefer both with it going to 72.

Only if the other First Four is at The Palestra.

Would need a western counterpart to Dayton

I think the women’s tournament is doing that with its first four.

Even if they insist on keeping the first four in Dayton, it’s careless bracketing on the part of the committee to make teams fly about 2000 miles for a game 2 days later, when they could easily design the bracket to send first four winners to closer sites.

the problem was this year you had 1 seeds all west of the Mississippi. 1 in Portland, 1 in San Diego and 2 in Ft Worth. Couldn't have both PIG winners in Ft Worth.

That wouldn’t be an issue with the at large first four teams. Yet they are sending the ND-Rutgers winner from Dayton to San Diego.
