RE: #1 Drake - GAME 32 - CBI Quarterfinals
Looking at their stats their biggest weakness is three point shooting at 30.8% and they also took the fewest attempts in the conference with only 18 attempts per game. They also allowed opponents to shoot 35% from three. They are a strong rebounding team and led the MVC in steals at just over six per game along while turning it over only 11 times per game average.
Starter Devries 6'7" 210lb. Fr. 13.9 ppg., 73-215 from three(34%), 4.6 reb, 77-100 FT' s, 30 min
Starter Penn 6'0" 180lb Sr. 11.1 ppg, 12-50 from three(24%), 109 assists, 63 TO's, 29.1 mins
Starter Sturtz 6'3" 180lb Sr. 11 ppg, 8-30 from three(26.7%), 59% FG, 81-101 FT's, 7.2 Reb, 29.9 min
Starter Hemphill 6'6" 200lb Sr 9.9 ppg 2-3 from three, 54%FG, 64-101 FT's, 5.4 Rebs, 26.1 min
Starter Brodie 6'10" 275lb Sr. 5.8ppg, 49% FG, 4.6 Rebs, 18.2 Mins
Murphy 6'6" 210lb Sr 9ppg, 39-132 from three(29.5%), 5.4 reb, 28.3 min
Furgeson 6'8" 220lb. RsSo 1.9ppg, 2 Rebs,
Djamgouz 6'5" 190lb RsSo was 6-8 from three in the first CBI game in 21 minutes. Didn't play much during the season.
The most interesting player statistically is Sturtz. He barely shoots the three, but he's their leading rebounder at just over 7 per game and shoots 59% from the field. He also gets to the line a lot, which tells me he gets his points on the drive and draws fouls.
It's hard to say what to expect. Drake is missing a senior guard that averaged 10 ppg and played 29 minutes. Started 30 of the 30 games he played, and they played 35 games. So seems like something happened five games ago, but they did make it to the conference finals without him. But we're missing our energy guy and one of our best rebounders. I'm afraid this is going to come down to UNCW shooting the three ball if we're going to win, because I don't see us driving on their size. The good news is that we were 10-25 from three today.
