A modern national championship, an incredibly tough place to play, a large and dedicated fanbase, and a coach that is proving himself to be elite. Baylor's place in basketball history is nothing compared to Arkansas'.
Well Florida has won not one but two national championships since Arkansas won and has made four Final Fours since Arkansas has. Auburn, South Carolina, LSU, and even Mississippi State have made Final Fours more recently than Arkansas has. Arkansas went 25 years without making a Sweet 16. I agree Eric Mussleman is a good coach and they are heading in the right direction but the last time Arkansas was the 2nd best program in the SEC was in the 90's.
Schmuck has a point. Arkansas was a beast in the SWC but have been much tamer since joining the SEC after a great start there.
Arkansas had terrible leadership (John White/Jeff Long) keeping us down. We could have gotten better coaches, but they both screwed it up or didn't even try. Even then we were still right behind Kentucky in men's basketball revenues most years. For a little comparison, here are the top men's basketball revenues reported to EADA in 2019-2020 for FBS schools.
Louisville---------$40,684,042
Duke-------------$33,382,946
Kentucky---------$29,307,070
North Carolina----$26,230,915
Indiana-----------$25,140,266
Syracuse---------$22,665,104
Ohio State--------$22,020,260
Illinois------------$21,483,602
Michigan State---$20,211,332
Wisconsin--------$19,453,045
Arkansas---------$18,727,503
Honorable mentions.
Marquette------$19,732,396
Villanova-------$17,156,399
Arizona---------$16,890,955
Kansas---------$16,454,643
Gonzaga-------$14,153,038
Dayton---------$12,770,091
UCLA-----------$11,036,275
Baylor-----------$9,790,607
UCONN----------$9,789,117
And we got this going for us, too.
