One more round.

Like us MTSU was predicted at the bottom yet rose to the top.

Like us, they are a turnaround program and have tied Towson for biggest increase in wins compared to last year.

They were the 3rd best team in a strong CUSA and they won their Eastern division.

Traditionally they are a stronger mid major and it will be a tough one.

MTSU is the stronger team and should win.

Key word there: should.

No way I'd recommend anyone bet against the Seahawks against anyone right now.

RE: #2 Middle Tennessee - GAME 34 - CBI Finals
MTSU scores 74.5 ppg and holds opponents to 66.5 ppg. They take 42.7% of their shots from three. They have fewer FT attempts than their opponents. They average 13 TO's per game.

Doesn't look like they have any dynamic scorers or tremendous rebounders but have balanced scoring. They look a lot like UNCW with no true center and length all the way around. Looks like they lost their leading scorer and starter seven games ago.

This looks like it will be closer to a typical CAA game for us based on their size and style of play. We're going to have to close out on their three point shooters and get to the bucket where we can finish, kick out or draw fouls. Reminds of Drexel.

Starters:

Sims 6'1" 160lb Grad 11.2 ppg, 52-156 from three(.333), 4.4 Reb, 97 assists, 28 mins.
Lawerence 6'5" 185lb So 10.9 ppg, 59-174 from three(.339), 4.2 Reb, 26.6 min
Dishman 6'6" 235lb RsJr 9.6 ppg, 5 reb, 52% FG, no three pt. attempts, 60 off rebs, 27.2 min
Lenard 6'7" 175lb Fresh 6.8 ppg, 22-63 from three(34.9%), 57% FG, 54 blocks, 19.6 min
Millin 6'7" 205lb Soph 5.1 ppg, 27-72 from three(37%)

Weston 6'3" 195lb So 8.9 ppg, 19-60 from three(31.7%), 100 assists, 20.5 min.
King 6'8" 200lb So 3.2 ppg, 1 reb, 14 min
Fussell 6'10" 215lb Fr 3 ppg, 2 reb, 12.9 min

It really reinforces in my mind that in the era of essential free agency any team can be turned around very quickly if the right pieces are put in place. Even coaches and writers that cover the mid major conferences don't know how it will all work out because teams like ours have been pretty radically restructured from just last year.

Listening to Lunardi last night (when he wasn't talking about everything but the game that was going on right in front of him) he made it pretty clear that he had never seen UNCW play until coming down for the CBI. He was basing his "bracketology" on analytics alone. I can't imagine that he spent any time watching Middle Tennessee this year either.

After he went on his diatribe about A&M, he said he was about out of material and needed to save some of his talking points for the next game. I don’t know the answer but from 14:40 to the U12 TO, I don’t think they even referenced the game.

I am sure there are a few folks that have made a little money on our "perpetual underdogs". (or should it be "underHawks")

CAA Coach of the Year v CUSA Coach of the Year

CUSA's coach Nick McDevitt also took over the UNC Asheville job when Biedenbach became our assistant

Only 1 game between the 2 schools which was won by MTSU when they handed Year 3 Keatts' team, with Jaylen Fornes, their first loss

Last game of his college career. Needs to go out with a bang in front of a national audience on ESPN.
