RE: clt says Charlotte announces plan to double the size of the Rich
These are probably the plans required during the admissions process. A necessary step forward for the conference and for UNCC.

We are only 10 years into football and just over 75 years as a university. They are gonna be big mad for a long time coming.

Great day for Niner Nation! Picks up!

clt says Charlotte is a rocket ship. That is what scares schools like eCu and a lot of former cusa folks going to the lowly sunbelt.

tapping into the corporate money in Charlotte with the suites and hospitality areas will be a game changer.

I look forward to visiting and taking a leak in the Bojangles port-a-potty.04-cheers

clt says we have indoor restrooms. You will be amazed.

Looks nice, can't wait to see this finished in a couple of years. Hopefully Healy had the program heading in the right direction by then. One little nit-pick though, I would have liked to see the phase 3 40k expansion renderings.

I think Charlotte would need 3 consecutive undefeated seasons to warrant phase 3

clt provides the details

The plan is to expand the UNCC stadium in phases over the next 12-15 years (each phase could take ~2-4 years to complete):

Phase I: Add 3,000 seats (mainly addition of a section with loge, skyboxes, suites).

Total: 18,426 seats (including 1,050 premium seats)

Phase IA: Add 2,754 seats (new deck on opposite side of field)

Total: 21,180 seats

Phase II: Add 9,500 seats (expand the new deck around the rest of field)

Total: 30,680 seats

Phase III: Add 15,000 seats

Total: 45,680 seats

If you click on the "full vision," section here are also plans and visual depictions of the planned Phase 3 expansion to 45,680 seats (see upper panel in the above post), from more angles, and in greater detail.

I hope that’s accurate. The whole labeling it in multiple phases and wording that it has to be fully funded before construction will begin makes it feel like the 30k “phase 2” isn’t going to happen quickly. Of course I have no idea how much of that money has already been raised and maybe it’s nearly fully funded. I don’t think capacity just for the sake of having it is valuable, but I think you need to be at 30k and I hope the AAC conditioned an invite to Charlotte upon having a viable plan to be there upon or very shortly upon entry to the AAC. At the non power level I don’t really think there’s any reason to build new stadiums above 40k at this point. I think ECU honestly in the future would benefit from reducing capacity but making the existing seating larger and more “premium” feeling.

clt says our AD was on one of the Charlotte Sports stations yesterday. basically stated that the tower and going to 21 were a go. said doing it all in one project is a possibility.

Urban research universities have resources. Where have I heard that before?

This is great news.

RE: clt says Charlotte announces plan to double the size of the Rich
.

With both Rice and UNCC announcing $100 million investments into improving their athletic facilities and programs, it seems possible that the CUSA6 might be investing somewhere between $500 million and $1 billion dollars into athletics during their transition into the AAC.

They want to go to 30k in one build and the 81 mil price tag is to go to 30k. We have had some pretty big money already come in to feel comfortable to announce this. At least half I am very certain and likely more.

The fully funded thing is a unique situation at Charlotte. A few years ago AD shared with me that Charlotte is the only UNC system campus where projects have to be fully funded before breaking ground. It is written into Univ by-laws. Likely it was to help university not get in over their heads in the early years, but part of me suspects Chapel Hill shenanigans with that. No idea if that has been lifted or is still in play. Either way "fully funded" can be issued debt to build facility and then continue to fund raise to pay off debt as construction goes. That was the funding model for many of our athletic and nonathletic facilities. I am trying to get clarity on that.

Either way this is fast tracked for completion as I am betting you are correct AAC invite came with requirement to get at or near 30. We know the plan total plan changed some once AAC came around. It also makes sense with ECU and Navy and other AAC teams attracting more interest and crowds on a yearly basis and then the upcoming OOC slate with both local teams like Chapel Hill and App as well as SEC teams like Ole Miss.

Certainly exciting times!
