...extreme way to break from the ACC?
...just a crazy thought, but can speak from experience as a UAB fan...

...when the Blazers football program got kneecapped in 2014, it automatically changed the UAB Athletic Department status in C-USA such that we were in danger of being totally kicked out of the conference, as fielding a football team is a requirement for conference membership... Of course, we had a 'grass-roots' scramble effort to reinstate football and C-USA worked with us, but... Y'all see where I'm going with this...

What if, oh, say... Clemson decides to 'no longer sponsor football' such that their membership in the ACC is at risk (IF the conference has that requirement - I figure it does) ...with that, they are booted out of the conference (as per conference requirements). Fast forward a season or two, and the 'IPTAY' club has mustered up enough money to bring back their purple tiger football program 03-drunk ...but now as an independent, they can join up with whatever conference wants them... 03-idea03-phew

I guess the biggest question would be that if you are tossed from the ACC, does that void your GOR commitment? Probably not (lawyers are typically pretty good at foreseeing any circumstance which may crop up), but... who knows...

With that, I'm really not 'for' or 'against' the ACC busting up (actually, with my Blazers moving up to the AAC in 23, would probably be best for everything to 'freeze in place' other than the moves already planned...) - but just wondering if this 'extreme' move would actually work?

RE: ...extreme way to break from the ACC?
certainly creative, but not worth the risk.

You lose your recruits; you could lose Dabo if he decides not to wait out the return; and then where is Clemson?

If you get the SEC offer, just suck it up and buy out the GOR.

If you're getting $40 million MORE in revenue from the SEC every year, you're paying off a $500 million buyout in year 12; and then years 13 to the end of days, you're an uber rich SEC team.
