Coming from C-USA and Judy, Aresco looks like God's gift. I understand where y'all are coming from, but the six incomers are unlikely to say a bad word for him for quite a while.

That's the point I made above. Being blunt, I find it rich that the teams that bailed and made it harder for his vision to come true, are the ones criticizing him.

At no time did he ever have the power to do better because the schools behind him were always looking to leave... and the TV partners and other conferences knew it.

He could have done more when UCF made the National Title Claim.

Quote:“I’ve been a little more circumspect, because you have to respect the College Football Playoff.”

Instead of making a public statement right after the game, like UCF did, Aresco waits months before making a statement about the National Title Claim. When he finally does make the comment, its we have to be respectful of the CFP.

So he's fake. He wants to say all these bold things but when the moment arises he folds.

Then later he complains about it. His comment in this years AAC Media Day was that UCF deserved to be in the CFP but now that they signed a piece of paper and it makes them more worthy.

03-lmfao What else could he have said? The claim was ridiculous to start with.

UCF’s conducted a brilliant campaign, IMO. It thrusted UCF’s name into the national limelight, exposed the fallacy of anointing a mythical NC rather than playing games, and was based on past criteria used by other schools claiming a NC (eg, Alabama if I recall correctly). Furthermore, the NCAA officially recognizes UCF’s claim (https://www.si.com/college/ucf/.amp/univ...al-title).

He largely says the things that will appease the fan base and never delivers it.

Really, he did put UCF, Houston, and Cincinnati... and others in a position to move up, the only others that were even mentioned for the BIG XII were all members whom he had conversation with to join the AAC.

He might very well have poached the BIG XII if UCF, UC, UH, and other AAC members didn't run to the BIG XII corner and bend over!

Until 2012 there were 6 power conferences. Until the Big East became the AAC. It is therefore somewhat reasonable to say the AAC is a P6 conference.

That is true. The P5/G5 labels are so stupid. There shouldn’t be any labels.

Incorrect. There were 6 BCS conferences. That designation dissolved after well....the BCS dissolved. Then there were 5 power conferences.......although the AAC performed better than the ACC one year.

Think you missed the point. The poster didn’t say there was, just said that it was “somewhat reasonable” to say the AAC was a P6 conference. And it’s also reasonable to say, if there wasn’t any labels the AAC would be in a better position today in regards to revenue.

Instead of negotiating a deal to merge with the MW he panicked and brought in schools that bring nothing to the table. The whole "metro" idea is flawed and is never going to work. Merging could have brought the strongest remaining schools to together vs the crap shoot he is taking. He should have been fired the day after the announcement and the whole deal canceled. Once all the exit fee's are paid and the bell cow's leave ESPN is going to renegotiate the contract and its not going to be pretty. He also caved with the exit fees. The remaining schools need to be looking for every way possible to get out of the train wreck this guy created.

He fights the good fight and punches above his weight. He tried to pick up B12 teams to help his cause. Yeah, it was a 50/50 shot. Raid or get raided. Same thing is happening to the Pac/B12.

The only thing I didn't like was the long term TV deal. But overall, he fights for the conference. Could have done much worse.

Aresco has done good for the AAC. As for B12 he never had a 50 50 shot, more like 5-95. It went down like it was going to go down.
Big12/Pac is much closer to a 50/50 deal.

Sorry, I have never distinguished between BCS conferences and Power conferences. What's the difference? It's the same schools in each designation.

50/50 probably was more accurate if you consider all components of the situation last year. There is no way Aresco could have known that UT/OU would violate Big 12 conference bylaws neutering the pressure of those two as well as ESPN. From a legal standpoint the Big 12 got lucky it's still in existence today. Aresco/AAC had the better relationship with ESPN and the leverage went away from the actions of those two schools basically not wanting to wind up in court. If you don't believe me, Todge can explain all the legal details.

If only the PAC had acted to expand back then. They wouldn't be in any jeopardy now, and the AAC probably would have picked up a few good schools.

Yes, rumor has it the new PAC 12 commissioner made the recommendation to expand only to be turned down lead by USC. They had other plans for their colleagues. It's an all to often message prevalent in the higher education administration business in the country. The ethic of a jellyfish!

Nope. The residual schools, even if only a few left, would have invited many from the AAC and even the MWC to reload. They would have been swimming in money from the exit fees and retained NCAA credits that they would not have to share with the newbies, however many they would be.

That really depends on how many schools left and which. If All that was left was say ISU, KSU, WVU and Baylor... I am not certain that would have been enough for a rebuild. Also not certain it would have been worth it to the AAC schools to pay the exit fees.

Yea he just needs look out for what's best for the conference and not what's best for ESPN. ESPN is not looking out for our best interests obviously and the sooner everyone realizes that the better. ESPN has to know adding 6 CUSA schools weakens our position and we need to start asking why. There is a reason they don't want the best remaining schools to get together.

The remaining schools need to be looking for every way possible to get out of the train wreck this guy created.

There was one minor problem. They didnt want to merge. Other than that, it would have worked great.

Everyone wants to be in a better position and several thought they would get a Big 12 invite within 5 years.

It wasnt his fault that Boise, SDSU, CSU and AF all turned down the offer and our media partner didnt want the entire MWC.

Not here to cause trouble. Just thought it was interesting what you said about ESPN, after something I read just a few days ago from the DNR in Virginia:

Facing Marshall and Southern Miss sure did not do **** for us in CUSA lol we scraped by on crumbs with that media deal. Sounds like a bunch of bull to me. The American has no media deadweight like ULM, TxSt, ArkSt, South Alabama, etc.

Big12/Pac is much closer to a 50/50 deal.

You telling me you wouldn't leave for a conference of
UCF
USF
Cincy
WVU
Iowa State
Kansas State
Baylor
Memphis
BYU
Boise
SMU
Colorado State

That conference pays at least 14 million a year. More than enough to cover the exit fee. Maybe teams would have waited the full 27 months though.

The “metro” plan seems more to revolve around $$$ than markets. Money being spent by the AAC additions trump anything being done by the other schools the AAC could of chosen.
