I mean 12 is a bigger number than 10. 20% raise on the name of your conference alone!

The Big 12 is reeling? Maybe in the immediate aftermath, but they aren't now. And Minnesota to replace UT or OU is pretty laughable. The Gophers are a program who should be happy right where they are. What an idiotic article.

Memphis, Boise, South Florida, San Diego State and others are anxiously awaiting your call though...
It is possible in the immediate aftermath of UT and OU leaving, the Big 12 reached out to a lot of schools. Maybe MN were super excited someone might actually want them and in a MN drunken stupor someone at the athletic dept bragged to a Pioneer Press columnist.

RE: ...Minnesota to the BIG XII?
I would be surprised if this happened, but what if the new media deal is going to give unequal payouts, and Minn discovered that they are one of the schools at the low end?
Depending on amounts, there could be value in a move.
Also, there could be intangible reasons. Setting aside some sort of personality conflict, I also wonder if the possible addition of some PAC teams means that Minn may feel they have less of a voice.
And since this was leaked, this could also be some sort of negotiation tactic, due to some behind-the scenes wrangling that we don't know about yet.
And of course, this could just be someone talking through their hat : )

I’d give it a 0% chance the new B1G deal would pay out less than the XII deal, even if it’s uneven per member. Even more, Minnesota would trade ticket sales against Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio St for West Virginia, BYU, and Houston? Nothing against the XII but no B1G or SEC school would make that choice.

If we're only talking media distribution money, then I can't say I disagree.
There would have to be something more/something else to justify this, if the story's legitimate.
The fact that it's Minnesota - I dunno. This is reminding me a bit about MLB and the twins awhile back. Albeit, that was quite a different scenario.

If "at least 6" P12 schools are talking to the B12 as we were previously told why would the B12 be looking at Minnesota? Why would Minnesota even listen?

Minn to B12 is idiotic. No one is willingly leaving SEC or BIG.

Charley Walter’s, or “Shooter”, is a VERY credible source on MN sports news. But he only said that the Big XII is pursuing Minnesota.

I don't even believe that, no way the B12 is pursuing any Big school.

If they are, then they have a serious leadership issue. Any time they are spending on expansion should be spent on evaluating and inviting candidates that are potentially gettable, not hurling doomed invitations into the money pits of the the B1G & SEC.

P5 commissioners are smart people. They're not living in an alternate reality where they think they can poach B1G/SEC schools, and they're not going to do something unanimously ludicrous that turns them into a punchline. This journalist just isn't knowledgeable in the basics of realignment and naively fell for a source who either (a) is completely clueless or (b) had an agenda of trying to embarrass the Big XII publicly.

Minnesota to the B12? That's nuts. They're a founding member of the B1G. They're about to get paid like they've never been paid before.
The goal is to be in either the B1G or the SEC. You don't leave either of those conferences, even if you think you have a better chance to win somewhere else.

unless something else is going on behind-the-scenes that we don't know about.
But I agree, it would have to be "something" for this to be even considered.

It's like those outrageous YouTube videos. Naive people are their target audience as they eat that **** up and fill their pockets with ad revenue.
