Lets Talk about Clint Trickett
"Coaching career
Trickett started his coaching career in 2015 as the quarterbacks coach at East Mississippi Community College (EMCC) in Scooba, Mississippi, one of the most successful JuCo programs in the country in recent years.[11][12] He was featured prominently in the Netflix series Last Chance U, which chronicled EMCC's 2015 and 2016 seasons.

In early 2017, Trickett accepted the position of tight ends coach at Florida Atlantic under Lane Kiffin. After Kiffin departed for Ole Miss, Trickett was promoted to co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under new head coach Willie Taggart.[13]

In January 2021, Trickett accepted the position of wide receivers coach at Marshall under first-year head coach Charles Huff.[14] After one season, he was promoted to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach following the departure of his predecessor, Tim Cramsey.[15]"

I have a good feeling about his promotion. He just seems to me to be the type of guy that's a natural winner. I think he relates to the players well and I think he's "all in" with Huff. We play a murderer's row in conference this year, he's gonna have to be VERY creative to win this year. I'm excited to see what Coach Trickett comes up with this season.

He coached under Briles Jr. while at FAU. Let's hope he played close attention to that kind of offense. Their offense in 2017 was sensational and gave us our only loss to them, ever.

I am all for seeing what he can do. He has a pedigree. Just not as an FBS OC, but he seems to have bought in as a previous poster noted. Cohesion among the staff is HUGE! If they are together, the players will see it and buy in as well. Those who don't will be given their ticket to transfer. Huff, from what I have seen and from talking to him, is no nonsense. He knows where he wants to go and will only keep people in place staff-wise who are all-in with him. No dissention. I really think we are headed in a great direction and can only hope we hang on to Huff for a few years before he's snatched up. If that happens, then we are headed the right direction.

Yeah I couldn't agree more.

RE: Lets Talk about Clint Trickett
I'm nervous about having a young OC and HC but I like the change. Both Bill Legg and Tim Cramsey had a lot of experience, lead some explosive offenses, but then kind of fizzled out.

This is why I'm excited about Huff. He signed almost 50 players and basically cleaned house. It's all high risk, high reward and the old system wasn't exactly working. I think we got a glimpse of the kind of team he envisioned but didn't have the personnel for.

I hate to dwell on the past but I think Huff inherited a bare cupboard with a lot of locker room drama. Now he has the personnel and I'm excited to see what he can pull off.

RE: Lets Talk about Clint Trickett
i like it that Huff brought in Former VT DC Bud Foster, former NFL OC Chan Gailey and others to watch MU's practice and give their opinion on the team. About 25 five years ago a coach in this area brought in his old mentor and a couple of others to evaluate some skill players to see which ones he would start/use the most in games. He switched QBs and the results got them into the rankings. The old coach said because players might work hard and are
good team players but the other players are more talented and leaders when under the lights. they did their job in practice but some coaches form an attachment to the over achievers because they do have to work harder having less talent. A lot coaches fall into the trap of wanting to reward the hard workers by inserting them into the games at the wrong time and I think it hurts. Probably Evans in past years is a good example of getting carries when Knox or Ali should have been in there on critical third downs especially inside the red zone.

Doc and Danny were both notorious for letting loyalty override common sense. And, in Doc's case, failing to use the best he had on the roster didn't foster a more stable environment of rewarding loyalty. His guys were always at each other's throats. He always lost his team at the end of the season and cost us many CCG opportunities. These kids want to be part of a great team. If that means sacrificing their own playing time till they get there, then they will. The selfish ones will leave on their own. But you have to play the guys that give you the best opportunity to win. Rudy is a fantastic story. But Rudy didn't win them a single game or contribute to winning other than motivating attitudes. And that's why he didn't play on the team. He wasn't their best guy at the position.

Being HC or any coach is far from an easy job. Not one I'd like to have. Doc had his issues and I won't rehash those because we are all familiar with it. I'm really buying into Huff and Clint. There is just something about the way they carry themselves that has me on their side. I haven't felt this good about an upcoming season since Coach Pruett was here.
