RE: Is a 13 game regular season inevitable...
Yes…. 13 Regular Season Games is inevitable. I’ve been saying this for a while now.
If The P5 conferences go to 9 conference games, remaining at 12 games would make it difficult for some of the G5 teams to make budget. Some G5 programs depend on those big paydays for visiting P5 schools.
For some in The ACC / SEC going to 9 conference games means Kentucky, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida,
Louisville, Georgia Tech, Clemson and Florida State would have 10 games scheduled every year. In the years The ACC teams play Notre Dame, it’s 11 games a season already scheduled every year.
When every P5 conference goes to 9 conference games, serious discussions about a 13 game regular season will start.

I’m a fan of 12+1 preseason game.
Weeks 0 and 00 exist as a preseason and everyone gets to play an FCS school at home in one of those weeks. Splitting it over 2 weeks make it easier to find an opponent and creates more tv slots for which to scatter those games.
Labor Day weekend kicks of the true regular season.

How about a 13 game schedule where no player can participate in more than eleven games?
That helps to abate the player fatigue issue, while also benefiting the programs that have the most depth -- which seems to be the programs making all of the calls at this point.

Thinking about it, the easiest format is probably let teams not in a CCG play an additional conference game so everyone gets a 13th game. You could move the start of the season up a week and add a 2nd bye or shift it forward a week so you could separate the championship games from the non-championship games on Thanksgiving weekend. I'm sure the B1G and SEC in an expanded CFP could use these additional games to create defacto play-in games into the CFP.

There is NO WAY they do this. Especially since they’re talking about expanding the playoff as one poster already mentioned.
In fact, they’re actively doing research to shorten games, finding ways to decrease the number of plays in games, so at the end of the season, the total number of plays is decreased by 1-2 games. On paper, you still have 12 games, but it will seem more closer to 10 games in the number of plays compared to the number of plays they have now in a 12 game season.
No way they go to 13 games.

Here’s an idea. Stop spending so much money on infrastructure that doesn’t need it. And coaches.
Need some rules to keep these universities in check an level the playing field
