Yet you’d like FSU in the Big Ten which includes schools on the west coast? Sorry, you lost me there. It’s not like ACC schools would be playing them out there every season.

1. The SEC is my first choice for FSU.
2. FSU in the B1G with a group of ACC schools would work. Far better than a Frankenstein ACC conference on the extreme east and west and less $$$ to pay for the trips.
3. I live in B1G country. From a purely selfish point of view...I would LOVE FSU in the B1G.

I'm not gonna lie, as much as I'd like to see FSU in the SEC, it would be pretty cool to watch you guys playing Michigan or tOSU every year.

As a little no time FSU fan. I want FSU Vs Nebraska every year.

A lot of people want a piece of Nebraska these days. I'd wager that in a few years they might not feel the same way though.

I am fans of both schools and loved the National champ showdowns frame Osborne and Bowden years. Hopefully Frost gets Nebraska turned around.

Also with both Fox and ESPN part of this, an early exit for OU and UT is totally on the table and likely part of why this is proceeding.

I don't know where it originated as far as being used for conferences (I've only seen it on this board). Otherwise, it's both literally and figuratively obvious.

I'm not a historian, but I know that the term was used in 17th century England in reference to Parliament; don't know the precise usage, but I believe it had to do with a smaller Parliament for the King to treat with. How and why a "rump" Parliament could be created I do not remember. Think it had to do with events in the reign of Charles I.
Rump Parliament

A rump can also refer to the hindquarters of a human, and when the English/British Parliament meets it is said to be a "sitting of parliament"

Presumably Rump Parliament is an allusion to when the rest of the beast (Parliament) was removed.

ESPN has a lot of incentive to keep the PAC together (keep Oregon, WA, etc from going to FOX and they get the late night games which ESPN needs).

If B12 was confident in what they had, they would just wait till 2024.

Interesting stuff...

ESPN and FOX are talking to the Big 12, as someone stated earlier, take that in, a very different set up than when the PAC chose to open talks with a single entity.

The reality, ESPN can put MWC games on late night they don't need the PAC. This negotiation will include expansion add-ons in the deal. Expect this to look a lot like the B1G deal on a much smaller scale with future dollars tacked on based on future expansion. This is a no lose issue for the Big12. They are stable, the PAC is not. Waiting till 2024 opens the door for a stable PAC competing on a level playing field. The intent of the Big12 is to see if they can end the PAC leaving only the ACC as competition for a possible P3 spot if it is available, or P4 with the ACC, pushing out the PAC.

ESPN doesn’t have the MWC. Fox and CBS do.

Conceivably ESPN could take the three best MWC schools in Boise, Fresno and SDSU into the Big 12. This would give ESPN more late night programming for Friday and Saturday night.

Boise and BYU make a good travel pair.

Fresno and SDSU make a travel pair.

Fresno already has equestrian and could quickly bring back wrestling.

It gives you a set up to pull in ASU and UA into three pods of 6.

"One of the Pac-12’s Four Corners athletic directors I spoke with on Wednesday morning said that the Big 12 opening discussions on the media rights front is a “non-factor” for his university. He maintained there has been no contact with the Big 12 and that his university is committed to the Pac-12."

"A whole lotta lying going on right now"

"One of the PAC 12's Four Corners athletic directors...."

Sounds like Utah's AD, if I had to guess. Utah is all in and desperate for the PAC 12's survival.

From the Big 12's perspective, Utah is dilutive in the smallest of the Four Corner states at issue, so not likely as high on the Big 12's wish list.

Of the 4C, really only ASU should be confident. The big 12 could invite any combination of Pac schools that includes ASU, but the only reason ASU wouldn't get an invite would be if they were already moving to the B1G. Colorado is a shell of its former self, and Utah and UA are unnecessary when there are better options in their states for the big 12.

Here's a fun thought: the B1G says flat out "No" to the NW4. Not "no for now" but "no forever". The big 12 media deal looks to be far superior to the Pac, and in fact is better than the ACC's by quite a bit. Oregon, Washington, ASU, and 1 other get invites to join the big 12. Who is the 4th? I feel like Stanford would say no thanks but Cal would be super passive aggressive about it but probably go for it. Would the Big 12 take Cal over Utah or UA? Or all 3?

I still think Stanford and Arizona State are the next B10 invites, with or without WA or OR.

So yes, I think the rest are gettable by the B12.

Arizona State is not AAU. Washington would for sure be next in line before them.

The Mountain West TV contract is up after 2025-26. The entire Mountain West is getting less than $50M a year. ESPN could drop $100M on the table and double their payout, get low audience late night games and late-weeknight games, bulk up ESPN+ with afternoon and prime time games.

I'm not sure that's a number that works for ESPN, but it's cheaper than elevating 3-4 G5 teams to a P5 payscale.
