Statement from ESPN to the Hotline:

“We regularly engage in conversation around the future with all of our partners, but to be clear, we have not opened the contractual negotiation window with the Big 12 at this time.”

I believe this is true. They don't have to open up the window, to have very real talks.

ESPN to start next week and Fox after Labor Day which is MONDAY.

I for one hope that the B12 is about to enter into negotiations. I would like to believe at best and hope that they are told to expand because I think that the Pac is going to stay together leading them back to grabbing Memphis and someone else. Memphis has got to get back with the programs that belong with.

The imminent opening of these conversations is significant, as they come more than a year and a half before the league's television contract calls for a formal, exclusive negotiating window with both current partners. This development allows the Big 12, which has a contract through the 2024 football season, to potentially get tangible future revenue numbers for both its member schools and potential additions.

It is quite possible that ESPN and FOX will agree to lowball the BIG XII to save money for the expanded playoff, if so I can see 3 of the four pulling out of the BIG XII commitment and join the AAC or MW for an easier path to the post season playoffs, leaving just one commitment to the BIG XII because "BEARCATS ARE BIG 12 BOUND MOFOS"

A B12 with the additions of AZ, AZ State, Utah and CO would be interesting for sure.

Everything hinges on what the B10 does. If they don’t expand, the B12 could still be raided. Heck, they might get raided even without further B10 expansion.

The B10 seems hell bent of further expansion so we might see that Stanford, Oregon, Washington and one other is joining soon. That is the best scenario for the B12, in my own opinion.
