I could see a scenario where the Pac-12 stands pat, the MWC poaches from the AAC, the AAC backfills with Sun Belt and CUSA members, and the Sun Belt and MAC absorb what's left of CUSA. Or if the Pac-12 raids the MWC, there could be an MWC-AAC merger along with a reshuffling of schools between the Sun Belt, MAC and CUSA that eliminates CUSA. One way or another I won't be surprised if the G5 becomes the G4 or even the G3 in a few years.
It's become an unlikely scenario that the AAC could backfill with SBC schools.
I think MWC can indeed backfill with western AAC or CUSA schools. The AAC may only be able to backfill with CUSA schools and independents. I'm not even sure the AAC could poach the MAC, simply because the MAC is pretty tight.
It’s even more unlikely that the MWC poaches the AAC. No school is going to pay a $18M exit fee to make less $ in the MWC.
The MWC may try, but will likely see the same results the AAC did last year when talking to MWC schools.
I really see no reason why the AAC would now make more money than the MWC.
The AAC’s advantage over other Group of 5 conferences used to be UCF and Cincinnati football and UCONN basketball.
