Not happening. Would need more than the $4-5 million for the expenses in adding football, women's golf, women's soccer and marching band to the athletic department.

I read that thread title and was like: University of Nebraska Omaha?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uno#Academ...anizations

Abbreviations are such fun.

I still have to double check a thread to figure out which OSU someone is talking about. OK? OR? OH?

lol

As long as they never upgrade to FBS, I don’t care in the least.

I’ve never heard of an FBS team without a marching band, but I doubt that would actually be required by a conference.

It’s not like marching bands have competitions against other conference marching bands.

Hence tOSU. If only people would recognize what OSUgp meant ("Go Pokes!"), we'd be 2/3 of the way of being able to quickly keep that straight.

Doesn’t help the SLC, they don’t need it anyway.

Isn’t marching band part of the music dept at most schools? Either way it is co-Ed. Would red a third woman’s sport to offset football scholarships.

You're correct. Marching bands are part of music departments at any university.

Does this referendum tell students how much their tuition and fees would go up if this passes? Would they care?

RE: UNO Students to vote on adding Football in November
I don't see the students voting for it. Students going to UNO don't care for athletics at the school and that's fine. UNO is a good commuter school and there's nothing wrong with that for the city. It's a shame UNO was built near the lake and not closer to downtown. If it were downtown, I could see a team drawing interest and fans as a good location a la the Superdome or UAB's new stadium. Go to lots of good restaurants and bars before, walk to a game and then go out after. It could work out to be the Superdome's little brother for smaller events like international soccer, rugby, or high school football. But UNO is in the suburbs of NOLA basically. No one is going to drive to those games and that stadium will probably get more use as a high school football venue more than UNO football and I would bet the attendance for both would be equal. UNO students shouldn't be forced to subsidize it. NOLA already has Tulane so college football fans in NOLA don't need it nor want it. It just seems needless all around.

The other thread has a clip from local news that said the fee would be $300 for part time students and $400 for full time students.

Better no band than that joke that Stanford calls a band. There is a reason the Stanford "band" has been banned from almost all road games it plays. It's an embarrassment.

Yeah, but the thing is, IIRC the school won't be losing the money, or at least not most of it, as they will be funding it with mandatory student fees.

It is the students who will be pouring their money in to the bottomless pit of below-P5 level football.

Taxpayers may end up footing the bill via Biden loan cancellation schemes.

IMO, it is an extremely expensive way to try to do that, and the thing is, if it fails, it is not like ending a regular failed marketing program. Once football programs are established, they seem to be extremely difficult to get rid of

Extremely.
